What is going on with my internet?
I keep getting warning logs in my router that looks like my internet is being redirected somewhere, here is an example...
Oct 16 12:25:35 Warn: MRT_DEL_MFC; Errno(2): No such file or directory
Oct 16 12:27:36 Warn: The origin for route 239.255.255.250 changed from 192.168.x.1 to 192.168.x.2
Oct 16 12:27:45 Warn: The origin for route 239.255.255.250 changed from 192.168.x.2 to 192.168.169.1
Oct 16 12:27:45 Warn: The origin for route 239.255.255.250 changed from 192.168.169.1 to 192.168.x.1
Oct 16 12:29:42 Warn: The origin for route 239.255.255.250 changed from 192.168.x.1 to 192.168.x.2
Oct 16 12:29:45 Warn: MRT_DEL_MFC; Errno(2): No such file or directory
Theses logs keep repeating over and over in my routers log. the addresses with x's are apart of my home network. the ones without I do not know where they are coming from. This goes on even when nothing is connected to my network just the modem and the router. I've done a firmware update and a hard reset on the modem and router. Please explain to me what is going on

What model router is it? Looks like multicast traffic. Do you have IPTV or some other video streaming on your network?

I have a Belkin AC 1800 DB router and a Cisco DPQ3212 modem. I don't have IPTV or any video streaming. I get cable from you guys and have a cable box. This is just my home network. I don't really know what multicast is or why I would need it.

If you don't know, or want to know what Multicast is, just ignore the logs.

I do want to know what it is that's why I'm asking. I wound like to know why my network is using multicast when I did not set it up to do so.

What multicast is difficult to explain in laymen terms. The best I can do is compare it to a intercom system for media for your local network. See here for more info. Its used for streaming video mainly, but some malware or worms can use it as a backdoor. Thats why your getting traffic with nothing plugged into the router, because the traffic is coming from the internet INTO your network, not originating anywhere on your network.
As for how to stop it, that would be a better question for Belkin, since it has nothing to do with Cox service in general. I tried pulling up the manual for that model but it doesn't mention anything about it. What your looking for is a feature called "IGMP Snooping" and to enable it so it blocks most multicast traffic not originating from your network.
