weird email-FakeSecSen

All of my Cox emails, plus the non-Cox email on file got the same weird email.  I would take this a bit more serious if I didn't already have Cox's McAfee Security installed, updated, and protecting my computer (like the email recommends). The only other devices are all iOS devices that can't get a Win32 virus. Is this legit?  Here's the text of the email...

Dear Subscriber,

Cox has identified that one or more computers/ devices behind your cable modem maybe infected with the FakeSecSen or "Spy Sheriff" Virus. A device behind your cable modem appears to have connected to a command and control server affiliated with this malware.

Viruses can take control of your PC and gather your personal information such as passwords and credit card numbers, putting your data at risk

The following FREE security tools could help you detect and remove infections from your systems:
The Microsoft Safety Scanner

Norton Power Eraser

I don't think Mcafee can even protect you from this malware. Thats why they don't suggest you run Mcafee, just that they "offer it". Also, it can effect Windows and Android systems. All they can see is that the public IP assigned to your modem was seen quering for a website that is known to be connected to that malware. Did you run the other programs it suggested?

Hey TIM8,

I'd say yes, that is a legit email received. I received the same one when a friend of mine connected to my Wifi while her PC had a virus on it. The message was also sent to all of my email addresses as well. Did the subject like give a date and number along with " Compromised Computer Notification from Cox Communications "?

Yes  it  does.   Everything seems to be working fine and McAfee is not finding anything.  Maybe McAfee caught it before it could   Infect my computer ?

I ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner and Trend Micro's Housecall. After scanning for over 5 hours and more then a million files, neither found anything. Maybe McAfee caught it before it could infect my system?

Thanks for the help
