watching espn3
This is very confusing. I read the following Cox advertisement http://ww2.cox.com/myconnection/surf/espn3.cox?campcode=goog_espn360 - it does clearly say that a cox internet customer can access ESPN3. It turns out that one has to have cox TV as well. I discovered this by just basically trying to watch ESPN 3 and after many unsuccessful attempts contacted Cox customer service. After several weeks of back and forth emails Cox told me that one has to be subscribed to Cox TV as well. Not cool Cox!
May be next time you advertise something, please, add a few extra sentences such that people like myself won't waste their time.

It is confusing but Cox actually has it right. Maybe this will help http://espn.go.com/watchespn/faq#rec1.
Basically WatchESPN is a website that shows different content. The ESPN3 content is free for anyone on Cox's network (or from a .edu or .gov domain). I am watching this as I type this and don't have cable with Cox at all. Everything you don't see ESPN3 next to on the online guide will show you "Unauthorized access" when you try to play it.
PS. Cox, seems your support ESPN3 link is dead. FYI.

If its a deal breaker for you, and you know a friend with the right cable package on Cox, you could ask them to set up a VPN on their network and basically you could watch from their IP. This is against ESPN's ToS, but I don't think it against Cox's.

Thanks Health Edge. This is a great help. My frustration is due to the fact that one needs to thoroughly investigate each ad by Cox to make sure it actually leads to what they are offering. I hate fine print but it's better to have one. Imagine how much human hours Cox could have saved by simply adding "requires Cox TV subscription".
I am very happy with their internet though.

I agree with you, its a pain. In this case though I would say ESPN needs to share some of the blame. Not only have they made the entire thing confusing, but they keep changing it. All for the purpose of profit. Ands its because of stations like ESPN that your cable bill goes up every year.
