Using Logitech universal remote with Arris XG1v3 Contour2 box

Hi - I have a home theater system requiring 4 remotes, and I'd like to run it from a universal remote. I bought a Logitech "Harmony Smart Control" with a programmable hub. It will work with everything in the system except the Arris XG1v3 Contour2 box. I did some research on the box and XR11 voice remote, and it looks like this remote communicates with the box via RF. The Harmony communicates with the hub in RF, but the hub talks to the components in IR. Is there a way to configure the Arris to use IR instead?

Thanks

Hi Bradz,

The Contour 2 XR11 remote can function in both RF and IR mode. Contour 2 receivers use the same IR codes as the Comcast Xfinity receivers. When setting up the Logitech Harmony remote/hub, look for Cisco XG1 or Cisco XG1A device codes.

Hi Becky - Thanks for answering, I appreciate it. A also talked to Logitech support this morning and they told me to try using "Coxx Communications" as the brand, and "Contour2" as the model. They said that seems to work with some of their users. I'll try your solution when I get some time first, and it that doesn't work, I'll try theirs, and see. I'll report back afterwards.

Thanks again!

I have sort of a similar problem.  I have 2 new Contour boxes.

Pace XG2 (Samsung SX022ANM) non DVR

Arris XG1 v3   with client

I have a slingbox that worked perfectly with my previous box.  Now that I have upgraded I can't find

a IR code for the slingbox to send to the XG2 to change channels.   What might help is if you knew

of another brand that uses the same IR codes.  It might help.   I do realize the remote that came with

it is RF but the XG2 and Arris from my reseach also have IR sensors.   If I had a universal remote what equivalent

cable box should I look for to try the code?  Once I know this I can download the file for my slingbox.

Thanks,  Ken

Hi KenK,

You are correct; the XG2 receiver does have an IR sensor on the front panel. When connected via HDMI, Contour 2 uses Auto IR remote control programming. What brand remote are you using? We've had a great many reports from customers successful in setting up Contour 2 with a Harmony remote. When programming your universal remote, if you are unable to find codes specific for Cox Contour, Arris XG, Pace XG, Cisco XG, XG1, or XG2, try using Comcast Xfinity codes.

Hi again, Becky and Jonathan - I finally had some time to work on this today, and I have a resolution to my problem with the Logitech smart control universal remote with the programmable hub running my Contour 2 box. I tried using the Xfinity codes as you suggested, and most everything worked, but a few of the controls in the guide didn't work properly. At the same time as I made the original post, I also called Logitech Harmony support. Their suggestion was to fill in the maker of the box as "Cox Communications" and the model number as "Contour 2" and that's what worked, perfectly. Every command on the Contour remote now has a counterpart on the Harmony remote. The only difference is the "Menu" button on the Harmony takes the place of the "Contour" button on the Contour 2 remote.

Thanks for keeping track of your forums, it's a valuable resource. Hopefully others with the same problem will see this.
