User-supplied modem: Successfull install of SB6183
Wanted to let you all know that I just completed installation of a new Arris SB6183 through the Cox Self Activation website. Upon hooking up the new modem and powering up, Cox serves up this website to allow installation of a new modem without calling Tech Support and providing them the MAC number. One issue I did have: you have to choose a specific modem model number, and the SB6183 is not listed. I selected SB6182, and all went well from there. I did a search later on these two model numbers, and it appears that the 6182 is supplied by Cox (rented or for sale, I don't know; it's black), while the 6183 is the retail model (I got mine from Amazon) and is white. I believe they are identical otherwise.
The Cox-supplied Cisco DPQ3212 which I disconnected used 8 channels for download; while I am seeing that this new Arris is using 12 channels. Download speeds appear to have risen from around 114 Mbps to about 118...; not a large jump, but something (only very limited testing so far.)

Thank you for the post. I was thinking about getting a SB6183 but waiting for gen 2 of chipset. One difference between the SB6182 and SB6183 is by default the internal spectrum analyzer is disabled on the SB6182. Can you confirm? http://192.168.100.1:8080 should look like this.

I also have a SB6183, purchased retail, and like the OP had to select SB6182 to activate it. The spectrum analyzer is enabled on mine.
One annoyance I have is those dumb Cox web alerts keep popping up telling me to upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem...
