Upgraded NEW MODEM DOCSIS 3.0 but speed still caps at 32 mbps!!

Just recently upgraded my modem from Docsis 2.0 to Docsis 3.0 (motorola SB6121) but I'm still get speed 32mbps. I lived in kansas and I know cox just recently upgraded preferred customer from 25 to 50 mbps connection. Anyone having the same issue? From searching the forum it seems like most people having issue with old service code on their account.

@cata34

It looks like your account upgraded successfully.  Please note if you're using an older wireless-G router you may not see an increase until you upgrade.  Simplest way to find out if that is a problem is to try testing without the router.

@ChrisL

I see  ,  you right  my  wi-fi is a  older  Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54GL. I think is capped at 54 Mbps , i only get  around 20Mb up / 10 mb down ...  i think  now with  speeds being increased  i should get faster speeds , i will also try  soon  to  connect to my modem docsis 3.0 and check the speeds to see if i get them right ! my speeds should be if im not mistaken 50/20 ! ?

Thank you  ChrisL again!

To clarify, Preferred is is a 50/5 service.  As for the router, the max phy link on the wifi is 54Mbps which when you factor for overhead puts you around the 26-30Mbps max actual throughput.  Definitely try connecting directly to the modem to get a good baseline of the expected speeds.

Hi, I'm having the same issue as the original poster.  I have an Arris SB6183 and am getting 32 mbps with preferred.  Provisioning tech was unaware of any issues with the service code.

Give it a try now and let me know.

Thanks, but there is no discernible change on my end.  I tried rebooting my router and modem to no effect.  Also tried poking around in my router settings looking for any speed caps and can't find anything like a few previous posters mentioned.  Directly connecting my computer to the modem resulted in the same speeds as well.

OK, yours got stuck for some reason.  Try it again.

Thanks then what are the specs to look for in a router to have it increase the chances of getting the best speed now and in the future-it seems like there are a few thing that are important-

Dual band, N router using WPA2 is this correct?

Would it be possible for you to look at my configuration as well?  I upgraded my modem to a SB6141 but still only see ~30mbps.

Thank you very much for your time.

@LeadFoot

Everything appears healthy on the modem side of things.  Note if you have an older wireless-G router you'll typically be limited to around 30Mbps.  Simplest way to test this is to try without the router.

Hello from Las Vegas! Same issue here, swapped out a Motorola DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem with a Ubee DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem/dual WiFi router, but speed is maxed out at 32 MBPS. Is there anything that can be done? Thanks!

Eric s,

No worries, I've got you covered! Your modem should reboot. After it syncs back up to the network please log in at http://bit.ly/CoxSpeedTest to confirm the speeds have been corrected. Please let me know how it goes.
