Upgraded NEW MODEM DOCSIS 3.0 but speed still caps at 32 mbps!!

Just recently upgraded my modem from Docsis 2.0 to Docsis 3.0 (motorola SB6121) but I'm still get speed 32mbps. I lived in kansas and I know cox just recently upgraded preferred customer from 25 to 50 mbps connection. Anyone having the same issue? From searching the forum it seems like most people having issue with old service code on their account.

42 isn't all that bad for Premier in your area as how it's currently a 50Mbps service.  Can you try some tests using wired devices to see if there is any improvement?

Does it matter if I use my own modem? Will it still work with my Cox services?

I have a Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway provided by Cox.  My Speeds are Sub 15mbps. Should I purchase a Motorola SB6121 Modem?

@Melfel

So long as your modem is one of the models listed at http://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=b2ec95d0-7ef9-11df-5590-000000000000 you can use it with your service.  If you have a business account however the modem is in many cases provided on loaner with the service free of charge.  Check with your sales representative for clarification on that.

@mikhull

Both devices feature a DOCSIS 3.0 modem however the 3825 supports 8 channels vs. 4 on the SB6121 and the 3825 also features an integrated wireless-N router.  If you're having speed problems I'd suggest first checking your speeds by signing into your account at http://www.cox.com and going to Internet Tools.  Ideally I'd suggest checking your speeds using both wired and wireless connections.

I just realized this thread is exactly what I just started in another thread, sorry about that. I'm having the same capped at 32mbps problem. Can you take a look at my account and help please. You may also close/remove the other thread I started since this is the more appropriate thread. Thanks

I recently upgraded from a Motorola SB6121 (4 up packets / 4 down packets) to an Arris / Motorola SB 6182 (8 up packets / 4 down packets) My Cox Tech told me he thinks I will need the additional download capacity for 100 mbs and beyond. Ordered a new wireless router (Buffalo Air Station AC Extreme 1750) that should allow me to have lightning fast wifi in my fairly large home.  Should know more on Monday when it gets delivered from Amazon.  Stay tuned.

Hi Chris or Tiffany, I too am having the same issue as the original poster. I have the Preferred and recently upgraded to a Docsis3 modem (SB6141) and my speeds are at 31mbps -I have tried this multiple times -very consistent. I know I was getting 31mbps about 2yrs ago when I still had the Docsis2 modem, I know this because I took a screenshot of my speedtest Can you please look at my internet settings? Thanks. -Chip4

I am having the same problem.  I just installed and activated my new docsys 3.0 modem (Motorola sb6141) and I am still getting speeds of about 32Mbps, just like I was getting on my old 2.0 modem.  Can you check my connection, too?

I thank you!

Hello,

I am having the same issue.  New Modem and upgraded the speed to premier but only slightly faster.  Also my phone is connected to the modem but not working.

Thanks

This seems to be a common problem as I am experiencing the exact same issue.  New DOCSIS 3.0 modem, but only 32Mbps download.  Can we add me to the list of accounts that need to be checked?

Thanks

@Tadzmn The modem is showing current for firmware and service codes, the downstream signal levels are showing a little out of range that may effect the total speeds. Are there any spiltters between the modem and the wall outlet that we can try bypassing to test it further?

@smac4585 The modem and service codes are showing correctly on your modem as well, the signal seems to fine currently up to the modem if the phone is not working though we may need to reset the line here. Are you seeing any activity from the modem's lights for telephone 1 or 2?
