"Tuner Adapter" required?
For a cablecard hd receiver, why might you also need a tuner adapter? what additional function does it do? I want to use a Samsung gx-sm530cf to replace my hd receiver. This in turn will directly connect to a HD tv with hdmi cable. Also, does Cox charge additional for the tuner?? Also. is there any hidden "activation fees" for cablecard or tuner (self instal kit)? Thanx

A tuning adapter sends signal to Cox's system so that switched digital video(SDV) channels work. Is only needed for 3rd party PVR/DVR like the one you mentioned. No idea about charges though.

I have been using the Samsung Media Player you mention (GX-SM530CF) for about a year and Tecknowhelp is correct about the need for the tuning adapter and SDV channels. Cox doesn't charge for the tuner, sends you a self-install kit (tuner and CableCard), and did not charge me an activation fee. You will have to pay $1.99/month for the CableCard.
I have to reboot my tuning adapter every month or so when the reception becomes "iffy."
