Trying to save money... Trying my patience...
A week ago I got a nice mailer (snail mail) informing me that my Bundle discount is expiring. I called the phone number indicated and discussed my options.
By the end of the discussion, I cancelled a tier of digital cable channels and the bill only went up by $3 (for 6 months). (Yeah - I CANCELLED some of my service and the bill went UP!)
After speaking with my wife, we've determined that we can't afford to spend MORE money on a service we don't use enough to justify.
Today I called the Customer Service number and asked about changing my TV package to just TV Essentials (basic cable - no HD, no DVR, no HBO), keeping the internet as-is (HSI Preferred) and eventually cancelling the phone service as well (I'll need time to obtain another modem, since the provided one will be reclaimed if I cancel the phone service) Here's the answers I was provided:
(I'm currently paying $163)
HSI Preferred, TV Essential and Digital Phone (Essential): $122/mo. No, wait $135/mo (Hey actually said that)
HSI Preferred, TV Essential (No Phone): $108/mo. No, wait $118/mo (again, he quoted me the wrong price and corrected himself)
These prices weren't horrible, but I was hoping for something even lower (like the $75 after-promotion cost a new customer would pay). So then I asked about re-bundling and signing up for another 12 month contract:
HSI Preferred, TV Essential and Digital Phone (Essential): $138/mo for 12 months. (Yep, $3 more than if I billed them a la cart)
Can anyone point me to a resource that can help me modify my current bundle to save money and keep my business with Cox Cable? The web site is useless if you are already a customer and need to modify your services and the Customer Service line doesn't seem to know for sure what I'd pay for the services I want.
Anyone...
Anyone...

Isn't this pathetic? You posted this 7 days ago and nobody from Cox has even bothered to give you the time of day.

Hi CheerUpCharlie:
Sadly, no one can save money doing business with Cox. I was a previous cable customer and now only have internet ( for now ). Cox has the highest prices around. They also randomly increase their fees periodically. When I was a cable customer I was always receiving little surprises when opening my bill. Over a year, my fees had increased by over $20 a month. No one at Cox could explain what the increased fees were for, but just seemed to read off a provided statement that Cox has the right to increase fees at any time, without notice. Boy do they take advantage of that " right ".
I cancelled my cable and entered a contract with Cox for just internet. I was just recently again surprised with an $8 increase on my internet bill, hmmm while in contract??? I read the internet forums and saw that everyone is receiving these increases.
I am calling Cox to cancel my service. I can't afford their random price increases on top of their high prices. I am a happy happy customer of Dish Network. I had incorrect views of dish as hearing they cut out, I have had nothing but great service, and if it does cut out, its very quickly restored. I pay $89 a month for tons of channels, DVR in 3 rooms, beats the heck out of Cox prices.
Run Charlie Run! Cox will keep dipping deeper in to our pockets

I have been with cox for 5 years now. This month our bundle expired so we had to renew it. We had preferred internet and cox advanced tv. The advanced tv included only 1 variety pack. No sports/movie stations. After seeing these redicoulsoy low prices on their website and realzing my bundle was up I got excited thinking I might be able to lower my price I am paying now [which was $111]...So I go into the store and the Cox employee tells me in order to renew the package I have now it's going to cost me an extra $26 bucks! I was in shock! He then perceeded to tell me If i get the landline phone my package will be $6 dollars cheaper. I then explained to him I don't need the phone and told him how I seen some online prices. He told me I didn't qualify for them that their only for "new" customers. So I told him I don't know what i will be doing because there is NO way I can afford any extra $26 a month! He then told me I can downgrade to expanded cable [1-60] and my bill will only go up $10. I told him I have to think about it and left....but Wow really??? So if I DOWNGRADE I'll still have to pay more then what I pay now??
Anyway I decided to give them a call over the phone. The lady I talked to was much nicer. She gave me my first quote for the service I have now $130. I told her I won't be able to pay that much a week. I am a single mom working and going to school full time. So then she said "I can do $119." ..So i decided to just settle for that. So my bill went up almost $10.[all fees AND taxes included]
But wow I guess it all depends on who you speak with. Try calling again because the price your paying is way over priced. However I am sitll confused supposdely the cable&interent went up $3 each. Okay then where did the other $4 come from?? Hmmmm

I just had a similar experience. I received a notice to pickup a new remote at the local Cox store. I've been frustrated for months with my $185 bill, so I thought I'd explore how to save on the cable TV portion ($94) while I was there. While the rep was punching the keyboard, he said (in a very unfriendly tone) that I'd have to return the box to downgrade. No problem. But then I asked, "How will this affect my bundle discount?" He curtly replied, "You'll lose it." (Meaning I wouldn't save a dime.) I suppose he wasn't going to mention that little fact otherwise. What a crock! Show me any other business that can provide less service without lowering the price! I've been a Cox customer for more than 15 years, since they first came to Phoenix. At that time, they were eager for new business and treated customers like gold. Now they have become as arrogant and inflexible as the phone company ever was. At this moment, I'll work with ANYONE else.

I used an antenna to get my local channels, works good and furnishes all the channels we need, about 40 of them, just need to find a recorder so I can record shows. As for telephone, working on getting a phone alternative, If I can get to interned only, saves me about 140.00 per month, with a minimal equiptment costs

Cox cable are crooks. The service is terrible for the price you pay. I have called 12 times in the last 2 weeks trying to solve my cable box issues with no help from customer support. They could care less, HULU and NETFLIX both are 7.99 a month and blow COX out of the water in terms of service and value. I cant wait to cancel my service this week. Cable companies need to understand they need to lower prices not raise them in the fast pace of technology. The interface of the on-demand is technology from the 1990s'. Again COX cable are fake and do not care about the customer, with just transferring you from one representative to another with no clue how to do their job.

Hi David, what sorts of problems are you having with the cable boxes? Maybe there's something we can do to help.

Hate to say it but many have voiced their experience with adding a Cox phone line saves you money. I keep praying for DSL / U-Verse in my area.
I'm not pleased with what I am paying but it is what it is. DirecTV/Dish seems very attractive. But for some reason I am sticking with Cox. I am actually on a MTM now. Some want you to sign a 3 year agreement. Not happening with me. I am seeing more and more Dish and DirecTV installations.
I will note when I signed up almost 2 years ago at my current location (decided to go with digital cable and etc), I was told with Cox Advanced TV you can stream TV shows live as they aired. ???? Really?
