Tivo Series 2 and Cox (Cisco) mini box

It appears that most forum's on this subject are locked? I have the same question, and can not find the answer. I have a Cox Mini box and a Tivo Series 2. I have hooked it up to the Tivo. I can live with the single channel record watch, but I can not get the Mini Box to slave to the Tivo. I am using a direct IR to the port on the back of the Mini Box.. I am using the Bleiden "Tivo IR to Cable/DTA Box Direct Connect Control Cable". This system reportedly works with the Evolution DTA that Comcast uses. 1) I understand that Cox has some Evolution Mini DTA's. Can I trade mine in for one of these? (The are controllable through the direct cable, no IR emitter or "blast" required. 2) Has anyone had any luck getting a Series 2 to work with the Cox Mini? If so, how? (There is no cable card slot in this Series.) 3) What can Cox do to help those of us who own our own DVR's that are caught up in this switch to digital, but were happy with what they used to have, prior to 5/17/16? Thank you in advance for any help Cox, or anyone else who has had success with the Cox Mini can post.

Hi Rohard,

We've provided TiVo with all of the necessary information to add the mini box to the list of supported cable boxes. Cox Solution Stores provide IR extenders for the mini box IR remote control. Some TiVo Series 2 customers have reported that they were able to connect the IR extender to the TiVo IR Blaster and set the remote manually, using code 10104 (or 10014) in the TiVo IR Setup Menu/Advanced Setup Option.

I can try to find out if the Evolution mini boxes are available in your market. What is your city and state?

Sorry, I didn't see this response. Edmond, OK, to see if Evolution Mini available. I tried the direct connection, from Tivo to Mini, it did not work. I will go to the local cox store and check out the IR blaster option..

I am still waiting on a response. I bought a Tivo IR blaster. I have tried the 10104 and 10014 (A,B&C variants) and they do not work. It appears that there are 2 IR receiver on the DTA 250HD Cisco, one on either side of the green light (there are windows there behind the smoked glass)? In order to locate the IR receiver, I have used the Cox Mini controller, and I have to block the whole of the smoked glass area before it will fail to respond. Still not sure where the IR blaster heads are to be located in the Cisco box, but have moved heads completely across it, and it fails to respond to commands from the Tivo series 2 box. We are only 6 days from your May 17th proposed switch. Comcast customers report the Evolution box works. Is Cox going to have a workaround for the Cisco box or not. Essentially I will not have TV service for my DVR on 5/17 if you can't give us a fix for this. These threads go back to the middle of last year, with no resolution that I can find (and they are locked now). Please help.

I don't think its a box issue, but a issue with the Tivo not having ANY code for the Cisco adapter. Cox has given Tivo the codes, they just have to incorporate and offer them as a patch to the device. Cox can't change what IR code the Cisco adapter uses without physically swapping the devices out, so the change has to come from Tivo.

Thank you for the reply. However, if Cox has the codes, why not just post them? I don't need the auto setup, Tivo lets you input the blaster code in the advanced setup. Part of my problem is figuring out where the IR window is on the Cisco box. Putting a flashlight on the smoked glass shows there are two windows, one on each side of the green light on the DTA 250HD. This adds twice to the time, plus Tivo wants you to check the A, B, and C option, so the time issue, for iterative solution becomes almost infinite. The only codes Cox has given, (see above), based on customer input, appear to be for the Evolution box that Comcast uses, which is in Tivo auto setup. I am running out of time, 6 days till they switch. I really don't want to leave Cox, but I don't want to throw my Tivo away. (My Series 3 Tivo works just great with the DTA, but has a cable card slot, which has a Cox card in it.

The way IR codes work is the numeric values should represent IR light frequencies. Kind of like a radio station stands for a frequency on the AM/FM band. Cox has the frequency, but you can't enter that into the Tivo, even via advanced. The Tivo has to be updated with the new frequency and number code that matches it. Only then will entering it do any good IMO.

OK, so there are 2 parts, frequency and code. I didn't pick up on that. Why can't cox just supply the Evolution DTA to customers with this issue? It works on Comcast, and reportly on some other Cox boards that is the DTA Cox supplied initially before they went to Cisco. Anyway, I now know more than I did. Thanks.

Hi did we ever get a resolution to this?  Cox support had me get a kit and card to set up my Tivo Series 2 even though I told them it wouldn't work.  Need help since my Tivo no longer works.  I can't even see the channels now, just vertical lines and the incessant song.

Hi Vamurph,

Was your TiVo Series 2 previously working and recently stop picking up your subscribed channels?

Hi Becky, since Cox moved to the all digital and the small box I can't get any channels on my Tivo 2.  Originally I had the cable just going into my Tivo and when the small box came out as being required I picked one up and hooked it up to my Tivo and all I got was a blue screen and just the music.  Called Cox and they talked me into getting the kit and card and obviously with a Tivo 2 I can't install the card.  So I'm at a loss as to how to get my Tivo 2 to work with Cox's new all digital box.  Does that answer your question?

I have the same issue, both Cox and Tivo not helpful. I can get my TV to work by putting TIVO on the AV channel, and using the Cox remote to change channels.(It is like watching "live TV" used to be before the all digital switch.) It will only record on the channel that is tuned into the mini box. Pretty disappointed, since there is a direct connection between the mini and the Tivo possible, or the IR blaster. According to research on the web, the Evolution box (Comcast) will work, but Cox bought the Cisco box. First time ever heard Cox is worse than Comcast. Cox did supply a "tunning adapter" for our Series 3 (that does have a cable card slot) and came out and made it work, however it keeps dropping out (losing synch?). I haven't made up my mind yet, but am leaning toward just leaving Cox. I, like you, was happy with the analog stuff on my small TV's, used the "advanced TV" box and Cable card on bigger TV's. The major advantage Cox used to have was you didn't need the extra equipment if you didn't want high def or premium channels. By what they did they took away their main benefit compared to Direct TV. I am seriously thinking about just becoming a cord cutter and going all internet, but am going to see what the FCC does about ending the monopoly on the cable companies not allowing you to buy your own receivers. Paying +/-$9/month for a cable box is nuts.
