Tivo Roamio or Roamio Pro + Mini & what to expect

It has been a while since I had a HD DVR from Cox.
About a year ago, I dropped all the HD programming & quit paying for Advanced TV.

My bill dropped from about $200 a month to about $125 a month. It was great, and we haven't been concerned w/HD.

But... Recently one of my 2 mainstay DVR's, a ReplayTV 5504, which I bought with a lifetime activation, back in 2004, has decided it no longer wants to tune channels.   I can record on one, and play on the non-tuning one, but it is a pain, as both only have a single tuner.

I'm wondering what to expect if I look a purchasing a Tivo Roamio/Roamio Pro + a Tivo Mini.  I understand the lifetime cost will be around $650, on top of the cost of the devices.  Keep in mind, my 2 ReplayTV's have lasted the better part of 10 years, with a lifetime activation cost of $350 each.  I'd say I got my money's worth out of the ReplayTV's.

So the cost of the Tivo's (low end) would be $200/$500 & $100/$150 or $950 - I'll probably use points for about $300 of it.
Then I'll need to get a CableCARD for the Roamio at $2 or $3 a month from Cox+ the service upgrade.

As far as channels go... I know I'll get all of the HD channels that the package includes, but what about the lower, non-HD, channels? The Roamio's aren't compatible with Analog cable, so will none of those be available? And if they aren't available as Analog, (I forget) but will there be a 1:1 for Digital to Analog channels?

Kind of on the fence... Really wish Cox just provided a Digital signal for all of the channels (now that I don't have any Analog TVs). And I could really care less about the movie channels/most of the "Advanced" content.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You're asking a TiVo question on a Cox forum? Two points: 1) You'll need a tuning adaptor along with your CableCARD. 2) Cox simulcasts all of the analog channels in a "stealth" digital packet so their all digital receivers and DVRs will receive them. The CableCARD should correctly map those for your Roamio.

I assume you have HDTVs, If not you plan to spend a lot of money on the Roamios, they are designed for 16:9 HDTV displays.  I'm not sure why you are concerned about the SD channels (most of the best, are available in HD at no additional cost w/ a CableCARD),  But Yes, Cox provides all the SD channels in Digital, so you are fine with the Roamio (or even the Premiere, Premiere4, or XL4)

The only difference in price between Essential TV and Advanced TV is $3/mo (plus CableCARD fee)

The CableCARD is $2/mo and the SDV Tuning Adapter is free.
With a CableCARD and a Roamio you also get access to the Contour HD channels (assuming you subscribe to the corresponding package)

I am confident you will be very happy with the TiVo Roamio.  I have a Roamio Pro, a Premiere XL4, a Premiere and 2 Minis, they were my best purchases.

You can get Lifetime Service on the TiVo DVR for $399.99 w/ Promo Code PLSR, (some have claimed this no longer works, others have said it still does so YMMV) when activated online at TiVo.com, as long as you purchase the TiVo from someone other than TiVo.  I recommend Amazon,  BestBuy now only has a 15 day return policy except for Elite customers.

The Base Roamio is 4 Tuners, 500GB, 75Hrs HD (no built-in MoCA, no built-in Stream) - You can easily upgrade the HDD to 3TB, by simply dropping in a new HDD and restarting

The Roamio Plus is 6 Tuners, 1TB, 150 Hrs HD (built-in MoCA, built-in Stream) - You can easily upgrade the HDD to 3TB, by simply dropping in a new HDD and restarting

The Roamio Pro is the same as the Plus except 3TB, 476 Hrs HD

I also recommend the 3Yr TiVo Extended Warranty ($39.99) available when you activate the DVR, unless you opt to upgrade the HDD, which will void that Warranty.

Domino - Yes I posted in a Cox forum about a DVR being used on Cox's service. Seemed logical. I knew about the Tuning adapter , but not the stealth signal. Thanks.

bryaninphx - Yes on all accounts. And I'm aware of using WD AV 3TB drives as an immediate upgrade. I'm familiar with the models, and thought that the PSLR code could only be used if another system has been registered to your TiVo account.

thanks for the help folks.
