Tivo Roamio New Orleans requires cablecard and tuning adapter for digital switch
hi everyone. my apologies if this has already been covered, but I've searched and can't find it.
new orelans has announced the "digital switch". I've got a Tivo Premier I've been using for years without any cablecard, etc. taping analog channels with it connected directly to the cable outlet.
I purchased a Tivo Roamio recently and am trying to set it up. I have a cox cable provided motorola m-card cablecard installed, and have gone thru the setup process. I am unable to receive any of the "old" analog channels (in SD) on that box -- I can receive HD channel equivalents for some of the old channels, but as an example wwl newswatch on channel 15 doesn't appear -- in fact, most of the single- and double-digit channels are gone!
From reading the discussions, it appears I may need a tuning adapter? When I rec'd the cablecard at the local customer service center, they advised since I had no premium channels, I didn't need the tuning adapter...
During guided setup, the Tivo asked if I rec'd a specific network on ch23. There was a black screen (no picture/signal rec'd), so I answered "no" -- so the original channels aren't even in my guide... however, if I attempt to tune to them directly it doesn't work either.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out to us through the Cox Forums! We are in the process of transitioning the CableCARD channel map to the regular channel map. This means that CableCARD customers who haven't been using a tuning adapter may now need a tuning adapter in order to receive all of the channels to which they subscribe. A tuning adapter allows CableCARD customers to view switched digital video (SDV) channels.
New Orleans CableCARD customers should have received a letter from Cox explaining the change, but, depending on the date of your CableCARD install, it's possible that we missed you. I apologize for the frustration this has caused! I suggest picking up a tuning adapter from your nearest Cox Solution Store and follow the directions for installation and activation. Please let us know if this restores all of your channels!

Thanks for the info. Very frustrating, as that directly contradicts 5 different customer service agents at the Airline Highway customer center -- it took 5 visits to get the two cablecards I needed, and in each visit I inquired as to whether I needed the tunining adapter -- and each agent assured me that if I was going from analog directly-to-wall to "new digital" all I needed was the cablecard for my TiVo's... Any way to just have them shipped to me? Else its likely going to turn into multiple more trips to catch them with one in stock! Thanks.

First, What TV package do you have or plan to get?
Second, some basic differences between the TiVo 2-Tuner Premiere and all TiVo Roamios and all 4-Tuner TiVo Premieres
BUT - Both the Premiere and Roamio are capable of receiving the SD (2 or 3 digit) Digital channels.
If you receive the HD version, on channel, 1007 - WDSUDT / NBCHD, you should also receive the SD Digital on channel 7 - WDSU / NBC
Once Cox goes All Digital in New Orleans (removing the old Analog channels) you will need both a CableCARD and Tuning Adapter for BOTH the Premiere and the Roamio. So you might as well get a CableCARD and Tuning Adapter for both the Premiere and Roamio now.
Important: Once the CableCARD is in the TiVo, Repeat Guided Setup, and make sure you choose Cox Digital Expanded as the Line-up Option, after your Zip Code. If it asks about Ch 23 again it should be A&E for New Orleans.
From TiVo Central go to Settings & Messages > Help > Restart or Reset > Repeat Guided Setup
Cox and TiVo are also starting to rolling out OnDemand on both the Premiere and Roamio

wow, thanks for the detailed reply!
re: what lineup: I've been on the strictly-analog -- "expanded basic" -- think its Starter + Essential - Locals + Basic and Expanded cable; with the digital switch, I'll be going to the same thing there -- don't have any premium or extra-cost channels.
I've been on a 2-tuner premier TiVo, via analog tuner and digital-ota. Keeping that, but also adding a roamio 6-tuner. I've got cablecards for both from Cox, and have setup the roamio with its cable card. That's where the problems begin.
Guided setup doesn't ask me to pick a lineup as it did on the Premier -- it goes directly to the "do you get A&E on 23" question after I enter the zip code... doesn't matter which way I answer, still don't get some channels / don't see newswatch 15 either way.
I believe you hit the nail on the head with: "Once Cox goes All Digital in New Orleans (removing the old Analog channels) you will need both a CableCARD and Tuning Adapter for BOTH the Premiere and the Roamio."
I was going this route from the start, but wanted to get the roamio up & running before futzing with the premier (& possibly losing access to stuff I have season passes for!)... and your suggestion was directly contrary to cox customer service people locally (5 different people by the time I could pick up both cable cards!)
Becky's reached out to me directly to assist, so hopefully I'll get everything resolved fairly quickly -- I'll report back with the results!
