Streaming Video on Computer vs. TV
During the Olympics I've been streaming the BBC video coverage on my Chromebook laptop and noticed a tenfold increase in data usage compared to similar time spent on LG smart TV watching MLB.TV. Can someone explain the disparity to a layperson? Thanks.

Most likely different streaming bit rates. Did one picture look sharper or crisper than the other? 720p vs 1080p makes for a pretty good difference.

Factors such as video quality, FPS (frames per second), color usage, and audio bitrate can all impact the bandwidth of streaming video. Check the video display settings within your browser as well as the settings of the website that you're streaming from. Most video players offer Low, Medium, and High settings that allow you to adjust the quality of your video stream from standard definition (such as 240p or 360p) to high definition (720p or 1080p). The video and audio quality increase, so does the amount of bandwidth consumed.
