Speed Test

I recently upgraded from 50mbps to 100mbps at the beginning I was receiving around 94. Then it dropped off and now I am doing good to get 34mbps. Cox has been out trying to figure out why. Cox always uses speedtest.net I was told today that it is a 3rd party and not reliable! So I went and tried 3 different ones all coming up with the same results. So does anyone know a way to check that is accurate? In case any want to know we have (cox) literally ran a fresh line from tap to modem to laptap with Ethernet cable same results 33mbps! When tech called in they told him results in office show we are getting 100mbps. I am suppose to take their word on it! When watching a movie I getting the spinning circle for movie to download. I didn't have issue when it was 50mbps.

I am also having a similar issue, I have the 50mbps and am only getting 10-12.  It is irritating.  They have a speed test on their website at https://myaccount.cox.net/internettools/speedcheck/speedcheck.cox  Even at 34mbps you shouldn't have any issues with video buffering.  My latency with video games has been high of late as well.  Seams to be an issue with their whole network.

Speedtest.net will work fine for testing the speed as long as its a local server, our speed tests will typically default to the closest as well, but the further away you go the more latency you will see and it will effect the total speed. Do you see a latency number in ms coming back with the tests with the hardwired connection as well?

@Jking

I looked at your modem from here however no obvious problems are standing out from what I can see.  Could you try testing without the router and see what speeds you get wired directly to the modem?

We have several times I have to use laptop to get close to modem. When cox was out we even took modem and laptop to garage where it connects to home and we still get same results. Yesterday the tech ran a line from tap (outside box in front yard) directly to modem then Ethernet cable to computer same thing ran couple of times anywhere between 29 to 34. From what I understand by doing straight from tap to modem should yield highest since no router or any devices are connected just computer which we still get same numbers. The only thing I didn't do it go to the other speed test websites while connected since cox said speed test is not always accurate since it's 3 Rd party. Off top of my head latency can range from 1 to 28 just depends on when it test. I don't believe over 28 I can confirm in a little bit. I am really trying to find something that will show I am getting the 100 Mbps that I pay for when hard wired. Other than taking cox word. Cox word doesn't make me feel confident since we still have downloading issues at times.

I tri 4 fun,

We really want your service to work as intended. I see you have another thread going as well and have replied there too. Was the most recently recorded speed test run on the Cox site performed wired directly to the modem?

the last couple of test were done connected to the line that comes into the house. I took modem out to garage disconnected it from house and connected to the modem. (as one of the tech said this eliminates anything in our house) then Ethernet cord into laptop. I am having to use the Kansas market the Oklahoma market says latency test error every time.
