sound and picture on 2 TV's not synced.

I have 2 TV's...one in kitchen and one in living room. When they are both on the same channel, one lags behind. Because they are close to one another, you can hear the sound and it is distracting for both viewers.  I have been told that adding an HD box to the one in the kitchen will not fix the problem.  Is this true and if so, is there a way to get them synced up

Hello srogers,

There are a number of things that contribute to this.  If one T.V. is connected to a digital cable box, while another is connected directly to the wall you may notice a difference.  This can occur because the signal must be processed by the cable box and then potentially by the T.V. as well depending on how you are set up.

For example, I have a cable box set up with my stereo down stairs, and up stairs I have a T.V. connected directly to the wall.  I would hear the audio come out of the T.V. upstairs first because the signal down stairs needs to be processed by my cable box and then again by my receiver.  All in all, this behavior is normal, there are some things you can try to do to mitigate the difference but there is not a guarantee that they will be successful.

If you are using an HDMI cable from the cable box to the T.V. you could try using Component Audio and Video cables.  That may decrease the delay for that particular T.V.  Some T.V.'s have an option to adjust the audio delay, though your primary goal would be to make sure the audio matches with the actors onscreen.

This behavior can also be as a result of the T.V. itself and the type of processor it uses to process the signal.  I wish I could give you a clear cut way of getting around this but there are certainly a lot of variables.

I hope this helps some.

Same problem for me.  It is frustrating when watching your favorite football game while a son upstairs is doing the same.  His victory shouts or loud rants from seeing results of scoring (before our tv shows it), gets so old.  Surely, technology is more advanced than this by now!  I am also having problems with mouth movements not matching up to sound.  We have to constantly rewind or change channel in order to get them in sync. All equipment (tv, home theater system, etc) is brand new, so problem seems to be on Cox end.  My son (lives in next town) and other neighbors have the same problems.
