Slow speeds after upgrade from DOCSIS 2 to DOCSIS 3

Once again, an angry customer from the virginia beach hampton roads area

Upgrade to DOCSIS 3 they said. Stable speeds they said.. So I did..

Before upgrading to a DOCSIS 3 modem I was getting upload speeds of 4-8Mbps

Now here are my current upload speeds on a 4 channel upstream bond

Data Test Server from Ashburn Virginia

Average data rate during 1036 ms: 961 kbps...
Average data rate during 2043 ms: 777 kbps...
Average data rate during 2021 ms: 650 kbps...
Average data rate during 2106 ms: 720 kbps...
Average data rate during 2111 ms: 185 kbps...
Average data rate during 2033 ms: 864 kbps...
Average data rate during 2136 ms: 821 kbps...
Average data rate during 2111 ms: 835 kbps...
Average data rate during 2030 ms: 817 kbps...

Upstream Channels
  Power Level
Channel 1: 49.2 dBmv
Channel 2: 49.2 dBmv
Channel 3: 49.2 dBmv
Channel 4: 49.2 dBmv

So yeah... Does firmware or something need to be pushed to my modem? I would like my upload speeds back as I am a dedicated online streamer. You can't even stream in 320p with such terrible upload speeds.

Side note: My download speeds have remained the same from the docsis 2 to docsis 3 modem, but as you can see my upload speeds have been severely crippled. I am very disapointed im paying for a package that costs 20 dollars more when Im frankly getting upload speeds now of your cheapest package.

Downstream signal levels are a little off but I don't think that's playing a signifcant role in what you're seeing.  When I ping the modem returns are in the 10ms range.  Can you try testing without the router to see if that could be a factor?  Also, could you try testing your speeds using our speed test by logging into your account at http://www.cox.com and going to Internet Tools?

Alrighty, so I did what you asked and the speed test on cox gives this result

Fri May 24 2:49 PM Yes 21 Mbps 2 Mbps 32 millisec 68.13.196.94

Northern Virginia

I know I shouldn't complain because that test is giving me my speeds i pay for, but before the upgrade i always managed to push 4-6Mbps upload steadily.

Other speed tests i've used on other multiple sites always gave me the same readings and are now much lower, though again theres been no change in download speeds.

I do have another question as well.

on dsl-reports a verified cox tech mentioned that hampton roads and nova got speed increases of 30/6 even though it does not show that on the website. Has this actually happened, just not yet hit my part of hampton roads? I rely heavily for a decent upload speed to stream quality gaming footage to my viewers and the 100 dollar package is sadly too expensive for me at this time :(

Those sound like the speeds for Premier.  There haven't been any changes for Preferred in a little while.

So if i upgraded to Premier would i get solid speeds of 30/6 or what the cox.net site still shows for hampton roads of 25/3?

The only thing stopping me from upgrading is the fact the package is 20 dollars more yet still has the same upload speed of only 3mb apparently. :/

Yes, as of September 2012, Premier on DOCSIS 3 devices in Hampton Roads and Northern VA is 30 down, 6 up. As long as you have a good configuration and good signals, you should get the speeds consistently. (Better, really, but I didn't officially say that.  )

I'm on Premier-D3, and my signals are not perfect because I don't want to deal with getting an RG59 drop replaced in my apartment but they are decent, and my speed tests have looked like this since I got my Motorola 6141:

Speed tests 1/21-4/19

That's going through a Netgear N600 on gigabit ports wired with Class F cabling (would be called Cat 7 if they still called it that), with nothing else using the internet at the time. Upload always skews high because for some reason our test doesn't upload enough to overcome PowerBoost, but download is close enough.

I have no idea why the website isn't updated for this. The Premier-D3 upgrade has been a very quiet launch for some reason, but it definitely exists.

Hmm. That is extremely tempting since I really need the extra upload speed but its so hard to decide because I've gotten a fairly good price on my current plan and I don't want to lose it :(

Thank you very much for the help and information though!
