Slow network today
I am experiencing really slow web page loads with many timing out. I typically get the following web page displayed for many of the sites I try to access (it is not just one web site). The server at www.nbcnews.com can't be found because the DNS look-up failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its Internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the Internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.
I have re-booted my router and that is not the issue.

I too am experiencing this same problem this morning at Mesa, AZ. I have power cycled both router and modem and have the same issue.

I just called support and they are performing a service upgrade. The message said it should be done by 7:00.

My Internet was completely down when I woke up this morning (6:30am Goodyear, AZ), power cycled router & cable modem - no luck. Went in and changed DNS servers from COX default to opendns and everything works fine.

I called again, and now you don't even get any type of update. Just a message that says we're experience high call volume they can't answer my call and to call again later. What? You can't even put a message on with an update?

Thank you pawtracks. Changing DNS servers to the two you listed in my router settings worked perfect. My whole connection seems reasonably faster than it was before with the DNS servers it pulled from Cox. I recommend others try this as well and see what results they get if they are still having problems from this morning. To clarify, go into your router,or modem if you don't use a router, settings (usually 192.168.1.1 with login varying by brand), and manually change the DNS Primary and Secondary servers to:
208.67.222.222 Primary
208.67.220.220 Secondary

I tried changing the DNS servers on my router but got no joy. Going to by-pass the router and see if perhaps that is the problem since it is 4-5 years old, it may be time to get e new one.

Ditto, can we please get an update posted here as to how long Cox is anticipating this to last?

8:30 in Tucson and having the same issues. DNS work around didn't help. It would be nice if they would warn us about upcoming service gaps since I work online from home this is costing me money.

Anybody from Cox even look at this thing? Do you even care that we use the suggested support tools and get no response from Cox. Come on people, post an update would you?

Yes we're looking into this and think we know what the issue is. As a workaround the steps outlined in this article may get you going again: http://ww2.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=e14ee070-6448-11df-ccef-000000000000
Meanwhile if any of you are using a Netgear router we ask that you please reboot your router and check for and apply any firmware updates that may be available.

"think we know what the issue is" - not a confidence boosting support experience reading something like this.
Now that you "think you know", when do you THINK you will be able to resolve it?
Will follow work around and watch for update.

We've got issues in Chandler as well. Of all of our family's devices only one of them can actually get online and only one page at a time (if i open multiple tabs or visit various specific sites I get nothing).
@Cox: Thanks for the update. Is that "work-around" a temporary thing we'll have to reverse later or can we set it up and leave it alone? Anything you can recommend for Apple users?

I changed DNS servers as suggested - the "net" is much faster than before.
RE: The cox technician who suggests a firmware update for NETGEAR routers...how can you do an update (earlier today) when the COX internet service is down?

What is the URL that we can check on the network status for our area? I had it bookmarked on my old computer, but I don't have it on this one.
