Slow internet connection

Hey! Since 2-3 weeks my internet connection is very slow. Sometimes the speedtest shows me only 0.3-0.5 Mbps which is too slow for a preffered package in my opinion ! Most times it's really bad during the late afternoon... When the connection is bad most times i disconnect the power cord from the Motorola router for about 3-5 min and after that the connection is good with about 5-7 Mbits but only for 10-15 min and than its getting worse again . Any suggestions for me ?

When you say Motorola router, do you mean modem or gateway? Because I don't think Motorola makes routers, at least not at the consumer level. Also what model is it?

Are you connecting wired or wireless?

Perfect. The most common cause of connection issues is low or somehow bad signal coming in through the cable wire. To check signal levels, first you need to log into the SBG6580;

1. Open a browser window.
2. Type in the IP address for the modem 192.168.0.1.
3. Type in the default Username; admin.
4. Type in the default Password; motorola.

Then click "Status" on top left corner, and then click "Connection" on the left hand side and you should see something like this. Copy and paste everything below "Downstream bonded channels" or just post a screenshot.

::Whistle low:: Those are some VERY low signal levels. That is definitely a problem. Not only is it weak, but its not clear signal either. Do you have any splitters in that room, or else where in the house, you can bypass? How does the cable work it's way from the street to the room the modem is in?

The SBG is directly connected to the cable out of the wall, so there are no splitters or something else i am aware of. I live in the 2nd floor of an apartment complex so i can't really tell you how the cable comes up here ... I just know that 2-3 weeks ago everything was fine with the connenction and now its pretty much a adventure to open up some websites....

It is so slow at the moment that even the speed test timed out because of the connection... :/

Unfortunately that doesn't tell us anything. All modems and gateways have certain thresholds that they can detect and connect to the cable signal.  Its possible you had low signal before but just not low enough for you to see a problem. Or its possible someone else in the complex is doing some DIY cable wiring and tapped off your signal. Either way you probably need a technician. Just be sure he can access what ever room or area that all the cable wiring meets in the complex. To make a appointment either email your account info, and a link to this thread, to cox.help@cox.com. Or you can call them on the phone @ 877-206-4210.

OK i am going to get in contact with them, hopefully they can figure out whats going on...

Besides i connected the modem to the 2nd outlet here in my apartment and took another screenshot, connection is now a bit better on the speedtest but not that good as it should be....

Actually the second outlook looks even worse. It had do drop 3 downstream channels just to get online. At this point probably best to let the technician look at it, but see here for info on what your signal levels should be.
