Since installing new Cox purchased Netgear Gateway - all sorts of trouble
I used to run a surfboard modem and linksys router separately. Recently, I noticed my speeds were very low and came here and saw that new equipment was required to reach the higher speeds. I took a trip to the local cox store and purchased the suggested netgear gateway. After posting here again shortly after install, someone pointed something in the right direction and I started to see the speed improvement.
Having said all of that, I hardly ever had internet issues but it seems daily we are dropped from the network. I plug directly into the gateway via a cable but everyone else in the family is wireless. I lose internet all of the time too. I also do the cox speed test and am terrible slow half the time. Usually, unplugging the gateway and waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in fixes it. All of this is a hassle. I am starting to think my equipment is bad? Again, rarely, I had issues previous to this change. I hate it.

Might want to bring it back and ask for a stand alone modem and then buy yourself a nice router. Gateways are nice toys, but no one in the know uses them. I think Cox started offering them just because Verizon does. The fact that they all have internal antenna alone show them as a inferior wireless product.

Can you describe what the lights on the device are doing when you see connection problems?

Not yet, I didn't know to look out for light behavior but I will try to pin that down.

Ok, my wife came up to stab me in the eye and unplug/plug-in the modem/gateway. I should point out I did this about a half hour ago and she had internet for like 10 minutes but now does not. I observed the lights at this time.
Light dynamics:
first (furthest left) light (power symbol) = solid green
next light (lightning bolt) = solid green
next light (N looking lightning bold) = solid green
next light (planet looking symbol with ring) = solid green
next light (says "1" on it) = flashing green
All other lights are off except the wireless looking button (2nd from right) and it's almost solid green.

Now I'm showing the modem offline on this end. It may be necessary to send a technian out to troubleshoot further.

No. It's awful. You probably saw green lights because my wife is home and has to reset the thing all the time.
I just had to pull the power cord to the gateway device and let it sit and reset as well. Again, it's awful.

It migh be beneficial at this point to arrnage for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.

I took Triken's advice and got a stand alone modem with a separate router over the weekend and no more issues.
I read that Gateways have issues previously but I figured since Cox was recommending them, that's what I should get. At least in my case, the Surfboard SB6141 Modem and Linksys E2500 Router fixed it seemed to be the solution.

Glad it worked out for you. Its not a magic bullet, because if your having general signal problems, doesn't matter what you have for equipment, but I have seen alot of people having issues with those Netgear Gateway. Then again I'm sure there are probably lots of people who love them, they just don't post here, for obvious reasons.
If/When you consider your problem solved, could you just marked it solved? Helps everyone keep track of who still needs help. Thanks! :-)
