send mail (smtp)
Why can I not send mail using the Cox SMTP server either from a mail client or directly via webmail?

Welcome to the CLUB of people that can't send email. No heroic measures are required. Ignore all advice from tech support and the moderators. Cox has had email problems since mid-November and has been unable/unwilling to fix. It originally was limited to the West Coast but based upon recent posts t is now spreading throughout the Cox network. For amusement you can read the over 20 posts and commiserate or you can file a complaint with the FCC website. This will get the attention of Cox Corporate office and might get them to transfer you account to a mail server that has better performance.

Why are you telling people to contact the FCC? FCC has NOTHING to do with email. Thats like calling the FBI because your toilet is backed up.
And transferring an account to a mail server...what? Where are you getting that from? I don't think that's possible.

Note that excessive amounts of email are detected coming from your connection your connection will be added to a list of connections that are put into a "cooling off period". So as to be effective in controlling the excessive volume of email, both webmail and the SMTP server enforce this. Naturally this will stop the flow of email thus after a duration of time the restriction is lifted making the issue seem intermittent in nature and appear to start working on it's own. Note that it may not be your computer sending the excessive email volume. It could be any device with access to your Internet connection including all computers, cell/smart phones, tablets, etc. that are potentially offending.

Once more you have shown your ignorance. I was told by Cox tech support that my mail account had been transferred from a mail server in California to one in Atlanta. Service improved since the change - not perfect but better. Keep your opinions of the veracity of other people's posts to yourself. You do no service when you erroneously criticize others. No one appointed you as a one man truth squad.

Let's please play nicely. Keeping things civil and constructive (not only makes my job easier *wink*, but) is much more helpful to all of our users.

Im willing to offer the olive branch first; apologies for offending you and being confrontational. I think we all just want this email problem to go away, how ever that is possible.

Agreed - let's keep it constructive. I won't criticize your posts and hope you do likewise.
As a side notr - I would have posted earlier but the Forum was down again.
