Self installation fee

I am a new subscriber at cox and i got charged for a self installation for my internet. Anyone got that charge?

For me they should not charge for it because i am doing the work here not cox... Not the other way around..

Was it a failed self install fee or a self activation fee? If former, was the tech ever out to your house, if so, what did he do? If the later, thats normal, and is the cost of the representives time setting up the work order and the technician time to go out and turn you out at the pole. Should be pretty cheap though right? How much was it?

Makes sense to call them and get the charge reversed if you did it all yourself, and from what you said you did it all yourself. You're right.

This is what happened..... My room mate was moving out so he terminated his internet at cox so the next day i applied at best buy. The rep at bestbuy told me that there was no fee for professional installation, so i signed up. That night i tried to self install since the modem and all the wirings are all the same because he gave me his modem and told me to activate it at cox.com/activate. To make the story short it failed to activate and the tech came the next day to activate it. They charged me $60 for doing the self install.... Tsk tsk tsk i think they are robbing me...

Then your paying for the technician to come out to your house and his time. What did the problem end up being? At that point your paying 60$ for a failed self installation, which is a professional installation after a self install has been tried. If the reason was any internal wiring or something not within Cox's control (grey area) I would call the charge legit. Whether you were informed of this possibility and what Billing can do is a different matter though, and outside the scope of this thread.

There are charges for a self activation kit that are universal, but if a technician went out for the install its likely a valid charge, because of the fact the previous account was disconnected and not transferred into your name. But given the circumstances we can take a closer look at it to see what can be done. Please email us at cox.help@cox.com with the street address and we can investigate the charge/install further.
