SB6141 (Black) speeds and firmware update

I have the Cox Premier Internet package but was using an older DOCSIS 2.0 modem so I wasn't getting anywhere near the advertised speeds.  Well I just purchased a Motorola SB6141 (Black) off of Amazon.  It wasn't until I already had the modem in my hands that I stumbled upon the whole black vs. white issue.

Well I connected the modem, called Cox and got it working.  I am seeing speeds around 28Mbps down and 15Mbps up (faster than what I had before).  However, I have the older SB_KOMODO-1.0.6.3-SCM03-NOSH firmware. Could the older firmware be affecting my down speeds?

Two questions:

1.  Are these speeds acceptable for what is advertised in the premier package?

2.  Will my firmware be automatically updated to a newer version?

Thanks!!!!

Brett,

There are 2 versions of the Premier package, one for DOCSIS 2 modems and one for DOCSIS 3 modems. Do you know if the account was corrected when you called to add the SB6141 modem to your account?  The speeds you're describing sound more like Preferred than the typical Premier speeds.

As for your firmware, our system automatically updates modems to the most current approved version available.

Colleen,

I do not know if my account was corrected - I had told them I upgraded to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to get the advertised speeds so I assumed they updated my account accordingly.  My bill clearly states that I have the Premier packaged and I most certainly know that I am paying for it...  Do I have to call back to have them check?

As far as the update goes, the firmware updated over night.

I just ran a COX speed test I am getting 32Mbps down and about 30Mbps up.  These still dont seem right and why are my upload speeds so high?

Chris,

Thank you! Was it incorrectly marked for DOCSIS 2.0?

I am at work and will try another speed-test when I get home later today.

Thanks!

Most folks don't fully understand the issue with fixing the account.  Simply provisioning the modem doesn't fix that.
