I recommend a separate router and modem. IMHO, stay away from the gateways (modem & router in one) ... the top list and anything marked WiFi Modem on the above webpage. Any one marked for the Ultimate tier should work fine. For a router, get one with gigabit Ethernet ports. Wireless ac is a definite plus if you can spring for the cash, that will future proof your investment a little and give you best available WiFi speeds if you have ac capable devices. ASUS makes a good line of routers. HTH
We have an SB5100 cable modem connected to a Netgear DOCSIS 3.0 router and to an ASUS DOCSIS 2.0 router and are having issues with phone service internet interference. I keep losing internet connection through the wireless router unless I disconnect the phone. Any suggestions? We have been without phone service for about a month.
JudyF, DOCSYS is a spec for cable modems (or the modem half of a gateway), not routers ... you can't have a DOCSIS anything router. The SB5100 is an old DOCSIS 2 modem, not capable of even Preferred level speeds. You also can't have 2 routers in the network, they can conflict with one another. If they are both providing dhcp service and doing NAT, you're bound to have problems.
Do you have Cox phone service? Did they provide a modem with a digital voice adapter like the DPQ3212. Is your Netgear device also a phone adapter? Please post model numbers for both the Netgear and ASUS devices and how you have everything conneted. Thanks.

Seriously, here is a list of Cox supported modems: http://www.cox.com/residential/support/internet/article.cox?articleId=b2ec95d0-7ef9-11df-5590-000000000000
