Modem and router separate!

Right now best seems to Motorola SB6141 and Asus RT-N66U/R or a RT-N56U if wired>wireless priorities, also its cheaper. But I think the RT-N66U offers the best bang for your buck, with alot of features that only come on 300-500$ routers like VPN servers and Dual WAN.

If you must use a gateway, then the best Cox seems to offer right now is the CG4500BD though that is very limited and might not be available in your area. The Motorola SBG6580 might be a second option. Try to specifically avoid the CG3000-RDv1. v2 is better. But really, try to avoid gateways in general IMHO.

Combo routers are better for those looking for a simple, one box solution but do limit you on troubleshooting and customization. Separate connections will give more possibilities and options.

I can not give specific router recommendations as long as its a 802.11n router it should be fine, but dual band will give better coverage.

For the best results on stand alone modems you would want one capable of bonding on 8 channels down which would be the SB6141 or SB6180 or the Cisco DPC3010.

Health's input on Gateway/combo modems is pretty spot on from what we have seen with them but it sounds like as a gamer/power user having separate devices may be a better option.
