Rented Ubee Router Keeps Resetting Wifi
The internet works fine on my desktop which is connected via a wire. The WiFi keeps resetting at least once every hour or two. This is completely unacceptable. How do I fix this without constantly turning my router on and off? Do I need a new router from Cox?

Hi, I can see that the modem is up and running fine. I'm not seeing that the modem is resetting itself. You may want to consider the location of the modem. It should be high off the ground and in a very open area. Having it as centrally located in your home will help spread the signal more evenly throughout your home. Do you think that the location of the modem may be an issue?

Hi Stephanie,
The modem was placed in a location selected by the Cox technician when we first moved in. It is located upstairs. The WiFi signal throughout the house seems to be strong because when our devices are connected there is no issue. The problem is that the WiFi will randomly shut off. My desktop that is hardwired will continue to have internet but any WiFi connected device will no longer be able to see the router.
Looking at the troublshooting guide for the lights on the modem. It seems that the modem's TEL 1 and TEL 2 will start blinking when the WiFi goes out. If this means a firmware update, then this modem is constantly updating firmware every 2-3 hours. It is really annoying having to go reset the modem or wait and see if it will turn itself back on. Usually I have to reset it to make it work again.
This seems to be an issue with the modem.

The modem continues to report all wifi channels unusable due to noise interference which would likely explain the problems you're seeing. If you scan for wireless networks do you see more than 3 including yours?

For example right now, the WiFi completely shut off. My desktop is still connected via wire, but everything else is not connected. I'm looking at the modem right now and WiFi light is off.
When I scan for wireless networks I see a bunch, like 30+ that include people's secured, unsecured, and some printers.
How can I fix this because it is annoying that every other hour the wifi shuts off and I have to rest the router.

It did not help. The signal is fine throughout the house, the actual modem's WiFi just completely turns off on me.

So long as the interference continues, the wifi will probably not be usable. 30+ networks is too many for any of them to be getting reliable service. Switching to a dual-band wifi may help but only if your wireless devices also support it.

I'm glad I was able to find a solution. Does Cox offer anything like that? I currently rent this Ubee one through Cox.

Yes, we do offer dual band modems; however, as it was previously stated, your devices will also need to be able to support the 5GHz band.

The devices I care about will connect to 5ghz. What is offered by Cox? How does that work with my current router I rent from Cox, do I just switch them out?
Why wasn't this mentioned when I was installing considering the tech clearly saw there were a bunch of other devices in the area.

You can swap the device at one of our solutions stores if you like. There may be a small additional monthly charge for the dual-band upgrade.
