Recently deleted all cookies, now I need help

putting some of them back in.  I had searched for something and got a bunch of advertising an a video which changes and is advertising which comes on Cox email and other websites I visit. Thats why I deleted cookies.

Problem is I get this video anyway, after putting back cookies.  Also I selected ask me when putting in a cookie and I get this big annoying pop up which blocks my page .  I cannot get rid of it.  It is from    www.strtsrv.com   and does this on every website I go to and asks to put in a cookie.  It seems to be advertising--I cannot get rid of it and Please What is it and what am I supposed to do?? HELP.

And I don't really understand what all these cookies are for that ask to be put back in.

Open Firefox in Safe Mode.  Safe Mode is the troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

On Windows, you launch Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open Firefox.  You should probably print the procedures first and then troubleshoot while Firefox is in Safe Mode.

Cookies are just small text files your browser (probably Internet Explorer) downloads from websites.  Their purpose is so when you go back to that website, the website "sees" the cookie and remember who you are. When ever a site asks for your Zip code, or State, its really asking you to save a cookie to your computer that tells the website where your from.

However, just like any tool, it can be used for bad purposes too. Those small text files can be used to store and collect personal data you don't want random websites to know. Others can be used like building blocks, used to create larger and worse viruses or "malware".

I think it would first help to know what the pop up looks like to see if its something legitimate or something trying to fool you. Can you take a screen shot and post it? And speaking of posting pictures, a friend of mine had this up in his cubicle once and I thought it fitting.

You unknowingly downloaded a browser hijacker.  Read the following article:  http://forums.anvisoft.com/viewtopic-45-6695-0.html

If you haven't already, download and install the free Cox Security Software (McAfee).  In addition to anti-virus, anti-spyware and a firewall; this security software also contains SiteAdvisor.  SiteAdvisor will alert you to potentially risky sites.

- Log into your Cox account at http://ww2.cox.com/myconnection/home.cox
- Under Internet, click the Cox Security Suite link
- Under Cox Security Suite Plus, click the Manage button
- Click the Manage Cox Security Suite Plus link
- Click Download...and follow the instructions

If you already have Malware, Mcafee is unlikely to get rid of it. I would go to bleepingcomputers.com download Malwarebytes and look up the malware removal instructions under "Virus Removal". That will atleast get you going in the right direction. Good luck.

I already have the McCafe Security software installed and I got this hijacker from trying to download goppix.net/photo=968RWT, Which someone sent me in a text message  on my cell phone in answer to a wanted post I posted in Craigs list.  Ipartially installed the above on my computer until it said I didn't have software loaded and to further install I would have to pay for it.  I uninstalled the partially installed software but still got the big pop up which firefox asks me if I want to intall a cookie for str-----  Everytime I get this pop up I click no, so this thing comes up on my email page and everyweb site I go to. I mostly use Firefox

The movie is an advertising movie that comes up on my email page and almost everyweb site, but that started, I think just on Cox email home page first.  Now its a Verizon ad.

I also have Internet Explorer which I seldom use . So, thank you I will do the firefox first and then google chrome.  I will let you know if it works.

The big pop up I get is Firefox Blocking the page and

asking me if I want to redirect to the str-------.Page.

Firefox asks if I want to allow or deny, and I click on deny.

I have tried the first steps with internet explorer and firefox. going to add ons etc. I can find nothing not even a cookie from www.strtsrv.com  , as I uninstalled what I saw before when all this first started.  But I will try the safe mode.

Why can't Firefox just block this www.strtsrv.com without asking me if I want them to redirect the page to that website?

Thank you for your help so far.

Have you tried Malwarebytes yet? I have found that will fix most malware issues. Run a full scan and post the results.
