It's not just MAC!!! Having the same trouble on Windows 7 (Outlook 2007) as well beginning yesterday...
We can use email (incoming / outgoing) for cox.net emails coming and going - but, I also work from home and have to send emails through my work server... guess what! I CAN'T!!! I have read all of the different solutions (changing settings / POP / SSL etc.) and none of it works!!! I have also been on the phone with tech support and they also seem to be reading from the same sheet of instructions I have... give me a BREAK!!!
Also, they don't seem to be able to address the problem!?! WHY!?!

Please still respond to Tiffany, I just also wanted to chime in. Sounds like you need to enable user/password for outbound. See the link below, under "Manual Steps" on how. I would also suggest setting the SMTP port to 587 and enable SSL. It will take a little longer to send if your sending a bunch of emails at once, but it will be safer if you ever send mail from a hotel or some other public Wifi.
