Quality of cox HD signal

Im shopping for an HD TV , maybe even an ultra HD model.   The sales people in the stores tells me not to expect the same quality picture that I'm seeing in the store.  This because they say that Cox and other cable companies have not upgraded their equipment to keep up with the progress in technology.   I'm wondering if this is true, why?   They seem to be charging enough to afford upgrading.   I can't seem to find the right people to speak with at Cox.   Can anyone confirm this?

It's not the cable providers, it's the networks like ABC, Fox, CNN, etc. Almost no one is broadcasting in 4k, they aren't even actually broadcasting in 1080p. It's upscaled 720p that you see on all the HD channels.

At this time, the only real HD and Ultra HD you're going to get is from a provider like Netflix.

As Chris_c21 stated, no UHD is available anywhere if the originating signal is broadcast. Ironically, over the air with an antenna might be your best bet as far as picture quality.

This is because the signal is up to 1080i compression free..

I can vouch that OTA is visibly better than Cox, the same way I can vouch that Netflix (HDX) 1080p is outstanding. Sadly,I have not experienced UHD, except in the stores.

Chris, whether we like it or not, 720p is considered 'real' HD. :(

I learned long ago not to listen to store sales people.
