Problems with reception

I have 5 older TVs which are hooked up to older DVD players/recorder. I haven't used any of them in the past year or so. hen I turned the one in my bedroom on today so I could have it weather info I could hear should I have to take cover in the walk in closet. I was surprised when it only displayed a notice that Cox is going all digital and I would have to get updated equipment. I don't understand what this means. Does it mean my DVD players will not longer work to use as a cable box as they use to? What about my husband's expensive DVD recorder? If I'm paying for cable TV and all of the TVs are connected to cable why do I need other equipment? Does anyone know if my equipment will work if I switch my service to AT&T? I might have to do that rather then have to replace all of my equipment. Doesn't Cox consider elderly people who are on fixed incomes who can't afford to get rid of equipment they've purchased over the years. That stupid converter box disaster, several years ago, was an economic hardship even with the coupons provided. How many times will providers be allowed to scam viewers like this. I'm totally disgusted with the customers lack of say in these matters. What is it I have to do in order to be able to use those older TVs/DVDs/recorder? Linda S.
