Problems Logging in to Cox services including Cox Email
The Cox Security team recently determined that spammers have used a small percentage of our customers’ Cox Email accounts to send spam or phishing emails. As a precautionary measure, we have disabled the Cox login password on the impacted accounts. This affects those customers’ ability to access all Cox services that require a login, including Cox Email, My Account, and Cox mobile applications.
To reset your password:
- Go to www.cox.com/myaccount.
- Select SIGN INTO MY ACCOUNT.
- Click FORGOT USER ID/PASSWORD and follow the prompts.
- Update your password on all devices and applications in which you access Cox services, such as your mobile phone or tablet. This update is usually found under the settings section of your devices. DO NOT USE A PASSWORD YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY USED. Please visit Resources for Setting up Cox.net Email for more information on resetting passwords on your devices.
- It may take up to two minutes to gain access to all Cox sites after changing your password.
Here are some things you should know:
How did this incident happen?
This was NOT a breach of the Cox network. We believe this may have occurred in the following ways:
- Customers may have been tricked into responding to a phishing email and provided their username and password
OR
- Customer credentials were obtained from other websites in which customers used the same password as their Cox login.
OR
- Customers may have identity-stealing malware on their devices.
What will happen if impacted customers do not reset their passwords?
They will not be able to access any Cox services requiring a login. Additionally, if they use a previous password they may remain unable to access these services and their accounts may be vulnerable to additional incidents.
How should customers protect themselves in the future?
For more information about Internet safety, refer to About Fake Cox Emails and Protecting Yourself Against Identity Thefton Cox.com. Additionally, Cox provides Cox Security Suite Plus powered by McAfee® to all Internet customers free of charge.

Still no resolution here! Where can I call and get help!!
I have emailed cox.help.com I am getting replies with things that have already been tried when I call. I want a number to call not the one I have already called and I am NOT PAYING for help! This is getting ridiculous!! Circles! I am a paying customer and I want a resolution! Is that too much to ask for?

looks like i can't access my email from my home network
my I phone was having the same issue as soon as I signed out of my WIFI my email messages loaded
but i can visit any site on my computer I just cant get my mail with live mail or even open the webmail page
i will try resetting the modem soon
The connection has timed out
The server at webmail.cox.net is taking too long to respond.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I'm having precisely the same problem. Works on my mobile network, not at home.
I have reset my password as instructed, too. Main account is affected, secondary accounts are not.

Two questions - what is being done to resolve the ongoing issues with cox email delivery - my computer (using Outlook) and android phone time out before receiving any emails. This began overnight on Tuesday (Dec 6) and is still going on.
Also, why does Cox no longer have a "tech support" email contact? I can't spend 30+ minutes on hold waiting for someone to answer.
HELP!!!!

I am, likewise, having the same trouble. Started late at night on the 6th or early morning of the 7th. Using Windows Live Mail in Windows 7, x64. Few if any mails come in before the connection times-out with an error. Messages that do come in are commonly repeats of messages I already have in my Windows Live Mail inbox. I've changed the password on my account (along with my mail clients - computer and phone) twice, but the problem persists.
When messages *do* come in, the are received very, VERY slowly... Typically many seconds between messages.
I can use the cox webmail fine, although it is slow to load when transitioning pages.
All other internet access seems to be fine. Data rates in typical browsing seem normal.
Here is the typical error message I get from Windows Live Mail:
Unable to send or receive messages for the Cox (######) account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.
Server: 'pop.cox.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No
Where ###### is actually my account login name.

Last night I timed it, it took 11 minutes to receive four emails totaling only 424kb (that's tiny)
Using webmail is an option, but not a good one for someone on the road - that's why we buy $700 smart phones and pay $100 a month for access.

I'm having the exact same issues, @rollermusic. I can log in to webmail just fine. I can't access my email through my phone or MS Outlook. For me this has been going on since around noon.

I am having the same problems since Tuesday. The rest of the internet is fine, but emails are taking forever to download when they do finally come through. Using Outlook.
