Problem with upload speeds

For the past 3 days we've had a rough time with our upload speed. Its been very slow and i'm not able to stream on twitch (which I do often) However the past few days its been very slow. To slow to stream. I haven't hit my data limit yet. I'm directly connected to the computer (ran virus and malware all clear) I have a tech coming tomorrow but I'm not sure if there is anything else I can do. Thanks

If you've ruled everything else out that may be worth a try.  From this end it looks like it's the connection between the modem and router that's suspect.  You could try using a different Ethernet cord even if you have one.

I have the same problem Cox speed test shows 25+Mbs upload all other speed test show 2.5 upload 6.5 down.

Real world is looking at my remote site cameras and speed is so slow there is a delay while watching.

For several days my speed will be 35+ upload and a few times 60 MBS but most of the time upload speed is 3 MBS or less.

I pay for "up to" 50 so I expect 30 to 50 all the time.

Today speed is 1.5 to 2.3 down 6.8 up yesterday I had 30+ all day so I know it is not my equipment but with the Cox speed test showing 25+ today I know Cox will say it's my problem.

I looked at your connection from this end and there's a few things I see that should probably be addressed.  The modem is reporting some signal noise problems on few of it's channels.  I'd suggest bypassing any cable splitters  you can or trying a different cable outlet and see if that helps.  The router that's attached seems to only have a 100Mbps Ethernet port suggesting it may be an older model and possible not well suited for the current speeds being offered.  You could try testing without the router to see if there is any difference in performance.  Also, you described being on our up to 50Mbps plan.  If that's the case note those are download speeds.  Upload on that plan is up to 5Mbps just to avoid any confusion.

Thanks for responding I really did not expect it.

Upload is great no problems I just ran a speed test and down is 1.48 MBS up 6.8.

Modem is a Cisco E4200 I use the Ethernet connection and should have no problem at 50 MBS in fact for several days earlier in the week I was having a consistent 33 and on occasion 62 download speed. This morning I noticed the slow speed when looking at my remote cameras and checked my speed it was around 2.8 MBS down. I don't notice the slow speeds above 5MBS.

Since being on Cox I had a consistent 16 MBS on the 15 MBS plan and was happy. About 3 weeks ago I started noticing the speed fluctuation as low as 800 KBS and decided to up grade thinking I would get back to 16 and maybe even higher for the most part it has been very inconsistent.

Could be weather related (wet lines or repeater) but I figured looking at other post my equipment would be questioned and be blown off.I did connect direct to modem to test a few weeks ago and no change. I will do that again now.

Well this is interesting.

Connect direct to modem and reset download speed in MBS.

Bixby OK 1.8...OK City..2.96...Sallisaw, OK 29.6...Lt Rock, AR 12.7...Joplin MO 1.06

Reset and back on router direct  OK City 59.7  Bixby OK 59.8

So now I am back to 50+MBS I turn off all equipment every night not sure if that has anything to do with it but that is a reset.

Just did another test 59.7. and I'm loving it!

Any ideas?

I've tried different cat5e cords and all the same. Being directly plugged into the modem made no difference so I plugged the router back in to watch stuff on my tv. got another tech coming tomrrow

Hi Kitkat362,

Please let us know if you have any further issues after the tech's visit!

Hi Garry,

I'm unable to get a signal to your modem this morning. Do you disconnect the power from your modem at night?

Yes I turn everything off at night.

I swapped routers last night and had 59mbs down until power down.

This morning I started out at 59 down 6 up ran OK for 2 hours now 1.9 down. 6 up.

I disconnected router Ethernet to PC no change, power down modem no change, disconnected modem Ethernet to router and bingo back to 59 down.

Same thing on both routers disconnect Ethernet from modem to router and all is OK. 59 down 6 up.

Still need to test restart PC and power down router I don't have a spare docs 3 modem.

Tech came by today and insisted that it wasn't a "service provider problem."

First of all, I find this hard to believe because up until a week or so ago, everything was fine, then, nothing changed except crappy upload speeds began.

My sister stayed at the house while the tech was here because my husband and I both had work and she said that he was not very friendly. She said all he did was look at the modem and do a few speedtests.

When he looked at the modem, he made the remark, "Wow, you're directly connected, I'm impressed." As if we haven't tried everything we've been asked to try. It made us feel like he thought we were stupid.

When he did the speedtests, he used speedtest.net and connected to the Atlanta server instead of the Pensacola server which showed a better upload speed but this does not help us because we are not trying to connect to the Atlanta server.

He kept telling my sister that our problem was that we were connected to the wrong server and that's why our upload speed was so poor. Also, that network congestion was causing a drop in speeds. This test was done at 12pm, but regardless, our problem only started a week ago and we haven't changed our streaming schedule. We pretty much always stream super late night/early morning. 11pm-5am.

He said that we could get a business account which would be more expensive but we would get a guaranteed upload speed at the sacrifice of download speed. That doesn't make any sense! Why would I want to pay more to get what I should already be getting?!

I pay what I pay every month and expect to get a steady upload speed as advertised. I understand network congestion and all that, but there is no reason it should be as low and as unstable as it has been recently.

We talked to someone on the phone, who was very nice, who said there were "timeout" issues, although we don't know what that means.

We still have problems and still need them to be fixed as soon as possible because we can't do what we want to do when we want to do it with the internet we pay for and that is a problem.

It seems that when there is a legitimate problem that isn't related to signal levels, you just can't get anyone to do anything about it.  I'm about to go through my second tech this evening.  I'm in Pensacola and I'm experiencing the same thing as you.  My router has been blamed, my modem has been blamed, and now that we've purchased a new modem and bypassed the router and proven that our upload still **, I really don't know what they're going to do.  There's really nothing a tech can do here on site, the signal levels are fine.  It seems pretty apparent it's some weird problem on Cox's side, but good luck getting something like that fixed, because all they are allowed to do is send techs and blame customer equipment.  It's very frustrating.

The last guy a contractor just left my house he was good but he couldn't fix it.  I asked them specifically not to send a contractor because they don't have access to the box on the street usually.

I've ran several Cox speed tests and they all say my internet is fine, but its far from it. I still can't do what I want to do (stream on twitch.tv) Actual speed tests show it to be very slow INCLUDING the 12 or so different servers I can join on twitch (ranging from Miami server to Seattle)

This still is a problem i'd like to have fixed or at least drop a tier since I'm getting the slower speeds anyway. No reason to pay for it if I'm not getting it.

So for the 4th time

COX SPEED TEST

Last Result:
Download Speed: 54149 kbps (6768.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 5582 kbps (697.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 41 ms
Jitter: 5 ms
3/15/2016, 4:42:16 PM

To me the Cox speed test does not matter. Since the twitch servers are the ONLY things that matter to me.

testmy.net

And once again I'll repeat This was NOT a problem up until about 2 weeks ago now. I was doing fine until then. Some people are in the same boat int he time frame too. Something at Cox changed about 2 weeks ago. I haven't messed with my settings at all. The only reason why I noticed is because my frame rate starting dropping from twitch  and my Bitrate dropped SUBSTANTIALLY. I don't upload that heavy either (about 2mbps-2.5mbps) which is why I figured the 10 MBPS Uploadspeed would be fine EVEN IF it was 1/2 the speed at 5mpbs I'd be fine and I find half the speed to be acceptable, but this is not

Twitch server test

And I'll say this again I don't care about the Cox speed test since it doesn't do anything for me. Testmy.net and Twitch server check are the only thing I care about

I've gone through other upload speed problem threads and it appears that most of them have to do with a tap on the street somewhere that is effecting it. So far only one tech has checked the tap and it was the one directly in front of my house. The 2nd tech wouldn't even bother. Is there a way to get a cox technician out here to check multiple taps on my block? That is really what I'd like to know

I can now confirm that the problem happened on march 7th. I checked my twitch stream and on march 6th I streamed for 2 hours with little to no problem. March 7th I streamed several times for a few seconds because of my upload speed. So how can we figure out what changed on that date?
