Premiere internet getting 2mb download....

This is really getting frustrating.  2mb download when I should be getting 50+???  fix this please.

My upload is almost 30mb..  my latency is 20-50ms...  that is all fantastic.. but my download speed is stupid ridiculous.

This is via checking both the cox speed test and other tests...  really getting frustrating.

1. What are signal levels of modem? You can find these at 192.168.100.1

2. What model modem and router do you have?

3. What is the context of the tests? Are you connecting direct to the modem? Wireless?

Signal info is below.

modem is motorola RGI6120.       router is a dlink.  have tried direct connecting and still having the issues without the router involved.  and it is a wired connection between router and the PC.

The tests are via cox or speedtest.net.  Not doing anything special.  just running them like I have done in the past.. and getting horrid results.  and the problem is that pages are loading slow enough that it is noticeable.

Signal levels look decent, though upstream power level is a little high. Maybe a tracert will show something.

Windows+R > CMD > Tracert cox.net

Do you have any antivirus programs you can try disabling?

Tracert included below.

and I checked antivirus stuff first..  nothing seems out of the ordinary.  and I turned it all off to make sure.

Good data. Is this direct to the modem or to the router? Looks like your local network is rejecting ICMP, but the 158ms by 2nd hop is the item of concern. Try the command below, also in CMD;

Ping -n 50 192.168.100.1

That is to the router

Looks like a issue between the modem and Cox.

I would suggest calling Cox and having them ping your modem and see if they see any packet loss or abnormal latency. Or perhaps a moderator can take a look.

@swguy

All looks well from this end.  Could you try testing without the router and see what happens?

I tried pinging the modem from this end and didn't see any obvious indication of a problem.  What happens if you ping 192.168.100.1?

You can see most of the answers to those questions earlier in the topic.

I had a technician come out this morning... and my speeds were back to normal.

I come home tonight from work.. and they are back to complete garbage.  It is 10pm pacific time.  There is not a chance that there are enough people on this network at this hour that it is taking my speeds from 50+ MB to the 1MB it is at now.

Check the service in the area.  The technician checked the box and everything else and found nothing that would account for any slowdowns... and of course while she was here.. the speeds were 50+ mb.

This needs to be fixed now.  I am tired of paying a bunch of money to have *** internet.  I pay extra for premier to get the good speeds...

When you see your speeds tank do you notice your signal changing? Specifically your downstream levels and SNR.

Maybe it's something intermittent that isn't there when Cox is looking. If you/they can't isolate it you might be able to call up and ask for your modem to be monitored. The exact process to do that differs from market to market, but there should be something equivalent.
