phony cox e-mail alert
Has anyone else received an e-mail from "cox Internet Support Team" at: csupport@cox.net
saying that they have "recently determined that different computers have logged on to your Cos High Speed Internet E-mail account, and multiple password failures were present before the logons. We now need you to re-confirm your account information to us."
They go on to say..."if this is not completed by February 20, 2012, Cox abuse team will BLCK your internet AND will have penalty to your account, as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes and will cause damage to Cox High Speed INternet Web E-mail Server.
They then give a link to "confirm your E-mail Account".
I'm sure this is SPAM....but wonder if anyone out there has received same???

First note, the email you received IS NOT from Cox. Second note, never, never, never, never reply or respond to those which probably does not even need to be said.
I have looked this over myself the times I have received those kind of emails and Cox has an article in Help/Support that speaks directly to what they would like you to do.
The article that helps explain this is:
Reporting Abuse: Spam, Phishing, Viruses and More
Sometimes it can be fun to pick apart these Phishing emails. For example, at first pass I see several things that would make anyone suspicious.
cox Internet Support Team - why could Cox not capatilize their own business name?
have logged on to your Cos High Speed Internet E-mail account - and why would they mispell their own name?
need you to re-confirm your account information - funny thing, I think Cox knows all about our accounts don't they?
Cox abuse team will BLCK your internet - what does it mean to BLCK your internet?
will have penalty to your account - what kind of "penalty?"
When you look closely at these it is easy to see that a professional company like Cox would not produce substandard content like this and I know they would never ask for this kind of information from any of us customers.

I received this also and immediately recognized it as spam. I called the cox trouble number and talked with a male person who said send it to phishingcox.net. I did and guess what, it came back undeliverable. So, so much for that. This happened about a month ago

Sorry about that but I think I see what the problem is. The actual email to Cox according to their support artilce is phishingreport@cox.net. It's possible they just didn't supply you the correct address. Try this one and it should work just fine.

Looks like they have cleaned up the spelling, but still have the Threat about the Penalty:
Dear Cox High Speed Internet Customer,
We at Cox Internet Support recently have determined that different computers have
logged on to your Cox High Speed Internet E-mail account, and
multiple pass word failures were present before the logons.
We now need you to re-confirm your account information to us.
If this is not completed by April 28, 2012, Cox abuse department will BLOCK your internet AND will
have penalty to your cox account, as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes and will cause
damage to Cox High Speed Internet Web Server.
We thank you for your cooperation in this manner.
