Parental Controls on Netgear n450 Cable Modem

Hi,

I bought my cable modem at the Cox store and the box says it has parental controls.  It is not compatible with the Netgear Genie app, I emailed Netgear and was told all support is through Cox as this product is only available through them.  I want to know how to set up the parental controls through the cable modem/router.  Thanks!

If you enter the IP address into your browser and logon to your Netgear router you can access the controls.

Not as good as Genie, but good enough.

if you call cox support they can talk you through the login and password to router.

What modem gateway do you have? And I believe most advanced features have been disabled on Cox gateways.

Mine is the modem and router in one, other than that I'm not sure.  I know how to log on to the IP address, just don't know how to set the parental controls.

The modem number should be printed on the unit. Usually on a sticker on the bottom or back.

coryzsmith,

The user manual for your gateway should be included on the CD that came in the box with the gateway, but it can also be found at http://media.cox.com/support/print_media/internet/equipment/Netgear_3000Dv2_UserGuide.pdf  You can use IP or MAC filtering under "Advanced Settings" and you can follow the instructions under the section "Limit Internet Site Access" to block by sites by keyword or domain. If you decide to use filtering I'd suggest using MAC filtering as by default the router would use DHCP not static IP addressing to provide devices a connection to the network.  You can check out the FAQ's and articles on Netgear's website for more information on the options. http://support.netgear.com/search/CG3000Dv2%2bparental%2bcontrols
