Paid for 100 meg download and I get 8 meg

I don't get it.  I paid for 100 mbps download speed with cox and I get 8 mbps.  I had some people of working on genealogy.  They came to my home because I have the big, fast internet.  Well, Thanks Cox, it was an awful night.  I do speed tests and I never get above 60 mbps.  I just tested the speed and its 49 mpbs download and 35 mpbs upload.  The upload is okay, but the download is 50% of what I pay for.  Thanks Cox!!!

What results were you getting from speedtests exactly? Could you post the results? Im confused when you first say your getting 8Mb but then later say 49Mb. Did you mean 8 MB? 

And if many people were connecting, I assume it was wireless? What are you speeds wired? Have you tried bypassing the router?
