Only 3 of 4 upstream channels bonded in DOCSIS 3. Is this normal?

My DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem's status page says:

Upstream Bonded Channels
ChannelLock StatusUS Channel TypeChannel IDSymbol RateFrequencyPower
1 Locked ATDMA 3 5120 Ksym/sec 36100000 Hz 43.5 dBmV
2 Locked TDMA and ATDMA 1 2560 Ksym/sec 23300000 Hz 39.0 dBmV
3 Locked ATDMA 2 5120 Ksym/sec 29600000 Hz 41.0 dBmV
4 Not Locked Unknown 0 0 Ksym/sec 0 Hz 0.0 dBmV

Is it normal that only 3 of the 4 upstream channels are bonded?

I am using the same coaxial cable for internet as for my satellite dish with an in-line amplifier and attenuator on the modem. Does this limit my bandwidth and make it so that my upstream channel 4 doesn't lock?

thanks

Channel availability can actually vary by area, not all areas will see all channels bond.  I'm more concerned however that you have your cable and satellite using the same coax lines.  We both run closed systems which means we don't consult with each other when deciding which frequencies to use for services therefore you can have overlap which each service would see as noise.  This could cause significant service issues and possibly even disrupt the services of other customers should those satellite signals leak back into our plant.

What I have is a SWM-8. Is that known to cause problems with the internet connection?

Its really hard to say without knowing what kind of duplex your using and how your wiring is laid out, but I don't "think" it should conflict. The SWM-8 uses 2.3Mhz, while your cable modem upstream is 23Mhz+. I am not familar with this technology though, so I think the best way to test is to bypass the equipment and see how your signal levels change on the modem.

Its probably more likely that your area is not congested enough to warrant them opening all 4 upstream channels. This is a good thing. Whats your upload speed like? Good?

Yes, as you can see above, the S/N is pretty good. The speed is pretty good, too:

But I'm wondering if it should be better?

thanks

Considering Cox doesn't offer any Tier with a upload above 10Mbps, I would say your seeing the full effect of speedboost on the upload and latency is normal. I would say your fine.

Thanks, but what is speedboost?

PowerBoost, actually.
It's an extension of DOCSIS 2.0 and above developed by Comcast and licensed by a few cable Internet providers including Cox, which increases upload and download rates up to 25% above your subscribed tier speed for the first few megabytes of a new file upload or download, if there's extra capacity available in the area at the time (which there very often is, especially if you have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem).
