Online backup

What is the difference between offsight storage and online storage?

Could you give me some context? Are you reading that somewhere?

In general, offsight refers to when you store something in a different physical location then the original medium. AKA cloud storage. Onsite is when you store it in the same location, like a CD or flash drive connected to the computer.

Its good to incorporate both types into your backup solution. Large files are better backup onsite, so your not using up bandwidth you don't have to, and recovery is easier. But then you want to keep some stuff in the cloud so it can sync between devices and give you access to backup files from remote locations (hotel, work, home, etc). Hope that answers your question.

Cox is pushing the online backup.

I'm being confused between that and a service like Carbonite, IDrive, or similar..

Are they the same or two completely different methods.

I'm currently using  WD 1 Terabyte drives out board back ups on each of my computers.

If Cox wants me to do the same thing covered under my current service, I would rather go in that direction

Yea, if you already have 1TB WD drives for each computer. I would just stick with that. Any convenience you would gain by putting some of it "in the cloud" is lost by having to have two clients on each PC.

Do you have any need to access any of your backup files when your not at home?

Not really. When I'm on the road it is because I need to get away from them.

I'm just constantly being  haranged by the "Fire and Flood" gang.

Thanks for your insight.
