Not receiving channels 4.1 or 4.2

I have two TVs that don't have a cable box. I haven't been receiving channels 4.1 or 4.2 for about 48 hours now. Anyone else experiencing this? I can still get channel 4, that is non-digital, but 4.1 and 4.2 are no-shows. Cox doesn't seem to be of any help nor does WRC TV. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe Cox is encrypting the channels in your area, but haven't gotten all of them yet? What area are you in?

Also, what do you get when you go to those channels? Snow? Black screen? Etc.

Hi Flowergirl,

In what city do you live? Cox is preparing to transition to a 100% digital platform in the Northern Virgina area, but we have not yet removed any channels from the lineup. Have you run a channel scan on your TV? Make sure you run the scan for both analog and digital channels. Let us know the result!

I've contacted Cox a few times. One technician said that it wasn't on them, but rather on WRC channel 4. So I contacted them and they don't seem to have an answer either.

 I'm in northern Virginia.

What I get on both TVs when I try to tune to those stations is "no signal found."

Thank you

Same here. 4.1 & 4.2 were not available 10/24 in the afternoon. Straight cable connection to tv.

Rescanned channels, only 4 is available. All the other channels ( local digital ) show up ok.

2 different tv's.

The message," No Signal" not "Signal could not be decoded"

Franconia area of Fairfax.

Did  you call Cox? I called four times and got four different answers. Finally I emailed them last night and this morning I had a response saying it's time for a technician to come to my house. They will be here tomorrow.

Thanks for posting I'm glad to know it's not just me

I have not called. I figured that is was probably a systemic problem that would be resolved.

I can always watch 4.1 OTA, no cable needed.

The tech just left and told me what I already suspected: 4.1 and 4.2 are no longer available without a box. He told me that starting in November all Cox customers will gradually have to have a box .   For the first year the box is free,  after that it's  $2.99 a month per box. He  said the absence of 4.1 and 4.2 was NBC's call. It's cheaper for them.

Hmm, well thats a little bit a white lie IMO, but in the end I guess it doesn't matter. Either way you only had a couple more weeks. They probably decided to remove them when they did their routine channel mapping reshuffling, which makes sense. Its likes getting rid of stuff the week before you move when you clean your house. Means less stuff to move. Stinks that people got the round around, but sounds like it was a engineering call, and probably wasn't communicated to the support staff.

I agree that it's a little white lie. I have a friend who is still receiving 4.1 and 4.2 over the air, so they still exist just not via Cox.

Well that won't ever change. The issue is if Cox re-broadcast it. Cox made it sound like it was NBC's call, because it was cheaper for THEM, when it reality it was cheaper for Cox. Cox pays them, not the other way around.

Hmm. I dumped the digital box a couple of years ago because of constant issues.

I wonder how this info about the box will be spread?

I found a page called  Go All Digital sign up. I think this is what will be needed in the future.

https://www.cox.com/content/cox/residential/corporate/pages/tv/go-all-digital.html/

Check Availability says the service is not available in my area.

I know the industry is moving this way to keep people from getting 'free cable'.

The last thing I need is another remote.

Here is a page to get you started; https://www.cox.com/residential/tv/go-all-digital/none-tvs.html

What I don't get is why Cox is billing it as "All digital" when they made that jump years ago. Should be call "All encrypted" but I guess that doesn't have the same ring.

The tech said we will get information and our bills regarding this issue. Also, he said there will be information running across the bottom of the screen starting in November. He also said it would be phased in with Lorton being first  to have to have the mini box and Springfield being last.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to look at that a little closer. If I'm reading it right, the page indicates that we can buy a mini box as opposed to renting it. I asked the tech about buying a box and he said it wasn't an option.
