Not getting correct download speeds
ok..so I pay for the Ultimate tier internet package. It says on my "View my services" page that we should be getting "up to" 200mbps. Now I also understand, what "up to" means..but shouldn't I at least be able to get 170-180mbps??
I cant even go over 120-130 on a test, and tbh I'm a speed test ** (for lack of a better explanation) So something is wrong somewhere. Tried to chat with tech support online. Was the worst experience I've ever had with any Cox agent!! I am an IT guy so I talk with cox agents almost daily!..anyways if someone could help or shine some light. I would greatly appreciate it
My equipment:
modem: ARRIS/Motorolla SB6183
router: Netgear Nighthawk R7000
I also have my custom gaming pc (gigbit nic), hardwired to my nighthawk

Could you include the data from the speed tests?
Also, what are your speeds when connected directly to the modem? Notice, I am a customer like you, so I don't ask to try to avoid the problem, merely to isolate it. :-)

Ahh, very good data. I notice a couple things. The first test seems faster, and was less latency to the same server. That says latency could be playing a role. Where the latency is occurring is another question all together. Second, looking at all 3 tests, your upload seems to be proportionally slower as your download. Another words, it doesn't look to be a upload and/or download problem, but a connection issue in general. This makes me think signal levels to the modem play less of a role. Last, the 3rd test looks to be the fastest, and is on a different test server. Are all tests Daphine faster then those to Mobile, AL? If so, then it looks like either the Daphine server is having problems, or the route to that server. Given that both speed on Cox.net are faster, it makes me think their could be some routing problems outside of Cox, in your area.
What do you get if you try this test? Be sure to pick Gigabit/Fiber since you get 100Mbps+.
Also, is the Ethernet from modem to PC a CAT5e or above? Do you see that your local area connection is connecting at gigabit speeds?

Hey scifidude1979,
You are correct, the speed for the Ultimate Internet is changing and you do have the proper device for it. The changes started a little more than 2 weeks ago and will end before December. Please allow some time for this to take place. What city and state are you in? I can see if we can get you a round about time frame.

In response to Heath Edge.. speed seems better today. still getting pretty much the same results on speedtest.net, but the link you gave and the cox speedtest results are great

this test ran perfect!! THIS is what I should be seeing on average!!: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/1224266

using cat5-e cable, and using onboard gigabit nic from an ASUS z87Pro mobo.. Latest drivers and all that good stuff
