Not getting 300 Mbps

I received an email this morning stating that my internet speeds have doubled to 300mbps but I am still receiving the usually 150-180mbps. I tried restarting my modem and router but no luck, still the same. Any idea why I'm not getting the new speeds? My modem is DOCSIS 3.0, so it should be compatible.

What model modem do you have? To get 300Mbps you need a D3 modem with at least 16 downstream channels.

Looking at your previous posts, looks like you have the DPC3010, which only has 8 downstream channels.

Well, if you're like me, you're going to find out that you're screwed by Cox.  Even though your modem might be more than capable of the speed (mine goes to 384 mbps), Cox won't LET it go that fast.  It seems that in order to get your "free" upgrade you need to buy or rent (which Cox conveniently offers) a brand new modem.

I especially love that, since I just moved from a TWC area in July where I already had 300mbps internet only to find out that Cox only offered 150.  I bought a modem that offers more than double that speed and was told that it was fine by the tech who installed my internet, never mentioning the fact that when the 300 "upgrade" finally arrived Cox would not provision the modem to that speed.

Looks like I'll need to buy a new modem. How is the ARRIS SURFboard SB6190?

I am curious too. I have a SB6141 and been thinking about upgrading. Anyone have a SB1690?

I have an SB6183 w/ 16 channel bonding and still only getting 150-180Mbps whilst directly connected to the modem. My frequencies are all above -10 and the SNR are close to perfect. No idea why I can't achieve the 300Mbps as stated, before they had upgrade to 300, I was on ultimate and getting around 90Mbps, so... 90% of what is offered. 90% of 300 is 270, so I'm definitely going to call Cox during the week to inquire.

I just ordered the 6190 from Amazon. Hope I don't run into the same issue as you. Let us know what happens with your speed.

When did you upgrade to the SB6183? Before or after the increase in Ultimate to 300Mbps? If after, it's possible you still have the "Ultimate 200" service code assigned to the modem, capping it at 200Mbps.

Also, I don't understand your math. Ultimate was 200Mbps before it was 300Mbps. If you were getting 90Mbps, that is not 90% of 200Mbps. And I don't think the SB6183 existed when UItimate was only 100Mbps so I am confused. Either way, I don't think the proportions say anything about the problem.

Just got off the phone with support and like you said, it was the code. They managed to change the code and I'm up to 300Mbps! Exciting.

Oh, I guess I didn't pay attention to my services, the last time I upgraded, Ultimate was 100Mbps... guess it was upped to 200, then 300?

Ultimate was previously 150 Mbps, then upgrades started rolling out in September increasing to 300 in some areas but only 200 in others.

Ahh, that explains it. I knew it didn't matter regarding the problem, I was just curious. Thanks.

Your doing better than me I have a 6183 and my DL is 22.65Mbps. I have had at least 15 home visits with no change. Tech support and field techs acknowledge that it is a problem outside with over subscription but will do nothing about it as of Saturday the 5th, I have been calling them since December of 2013 about the very same issue.

Wow, that beats my 7 to fix my problem. I find it hard to believe that over-saturation can cause such drastic speed loss. I believe they said it, I am just not confident it's true. All 16 channels are 90%+ saturated? Do you live in a very population dense area? Also, 2 years and no node split? Finally, is it 23Mbps all the time? You would think saturation would depend on load, which would change throughout the day. Sounds like there is more going on.

Do you also have Ultimate at 300Mbps? What are your signal levels? And problems with latency or is it just throughput? Maybe start a new thread on it?
