Not connected to internet?

Is anyone else in Southern California, or anywhere else for that matter, having issues with internet connection cutting out? This is the first I've had this issue after nearly 2 years of service.  I will be connected to my network, browsing without problem, then it will all of a sudden stop and I get a blank page with "The site you requested cannot be loaded because you are not connected to the internet." My wireless meter still shows a full connection but the only thing that allows me to return to regular service is turning wifi off then back on, or turning my router off then back on.

This is becoming a real pain in the rear, as I'm having to do this every 5-10 minutes.  Anyone have any suggestions? If this is an isolated issue I will happily contact Cox support.

Thanks in advance.

Adam,

Having the same issue here in El Cajon, CA for the last 2 weeks. 3 techs have come out and stated "everything is fine" but issue is still occurring. I replaced both router and cable modem without much help. They are sending a 4th tech out tomorrow, who I fully expect will tell me to replace my refrigerator, because that HAS to be the problem.

Yes, my Cox Internet connection cut out at 13:00 PST on Saturday, 2014-12-20.

At the time, my IPcop router box bleeped a few times as the internet connection apparently bounced and quivered. And indeed, when I checked the cable modem, it showed lack of connectivity on the Cox cable side.

Not to be deterred, I moved my 'green' wired network (in IPcop parlance, the green network is the trusted internal network) to my AT&T DSL internet connection.

Yes, if your tolerance for internet connectivity loss is low, it looks as though you'd be well advised to pay for an alternate connection from a different provider.

But getting back to Cox - yeah, I've had Cox Internet 'Ultimate' for exactly four days now, and already an outage has reared its ugly head. Seems inauspicious.

One of my co-workers said that Time Warner's cable internet service similarly cuts out at frequent intervals. And he's even in a brand spanking new housing development - no excuse for bad connectivity, one might think. My neighborhood was built in the 1970s, so I'm imagining a cable plant gnawed on by rats for 40 years.

So, it looks as though you get nice, speedy connections with cable internet service providers, but apparently you trade off some reliability.

It would be nice if Cox had a twitter feed regarding outages and responses, like Southern California Edison's, allowing customers to moan and whine in public all they want, you know?

But no, they want you to call in to listen to a recording. How very 20th Century of them. :-)

Connected by my Iphone, again. Norfolk, VA. Internet down, again. It has become near nightly issue for past two weeks and now, starting at 9:00 AM EST, down. I have tried reconnecting the cable and resetting the router. Still nothing. I tried signing into my cox connections account, username and password are correct, just keeps refreshing the page.

Tiffany,

No disrespect, but that's a completely BS response to my issue.  I shouldn't HAVE to connect with an ethernet cable. I shouldn't have this issue in the first place.  And it is still continuing. Days later. I still have to disconnect and reconnect every 10 minutes or so.  Sometimes more often than that.  It's unacceptable.  I'm paying for WIRELESS internet, not wired. Incredible that that was an actual suggestion for a remedy by Cox. Wow.

Adamsd, what equipment do you have?  Do you a have separate  modem & router or a gateway?  What are the model numbers?  I agree you should have a wireless connection but we must do some basic troubleshooting.  If you have a separate modem & router, eliminate the router by going directly to the modem.  This will isolate the problem to the router or modem/cable connection.  It's for troubleshooting, not a permanent solution.

Maybe a mod here can look at your device's logs & see if it's rebooting itself.  That could cause you to require restarting the wifi connection.  Or it could be in the router section of the device causing wifi to loose connectivity.  I digress but that's why I don't like the all-in-one gateways, I prefer separate devices.  Anyway, I think it's a good idea to test it wired.  It will give us more information.  Also, if you are renting it from Cox, maybe they would swap it out.

Hi Cindy Nicholson,

What type of issues are you experiencing with your internet service? Are you getting any error messages when you try to get online? Which lights do you see that are flashing/solid?
