New WAN IP Address
Hi,
How can I get a new WAN IP Address? It is my understanding that my service is for Dynamic IP Addressing. However, I have tried resetting the cable modem, unplugging the modem, and unplugging the coax cable to the cable modem, i keep getting the same WAN IP address as if I have a Static IP Addressing, How can I get Cox to generate a new WAN IP address? When I was in So Calif, all I had to do is turn off the Modem or my Router for a few minutes, and when I powered up the Modem or enabled my Rounter again, I would get a new WAN IP Address.
Regards,
Bob

The question was answered back in May when you first asked it. You may have to keep the modem unplugged for 2 or more hours or ask Cox to un-provision then re-provision your modem.

We are on a DHCP server so the IP address would change based on the needs of the server. If you wanted to manually change the IP the best and easiest way is to connect your modem to a different device (PC or router) and it would give a different IP address. The IP you are assigned is based off the MAC address; each device has its own MAC. Leaving the modem unplugged for 24 hours can sometimes force it into giving a different IP, although it's not a guarantee.

Derrick, if the OP has a gateway, how do you change the MAC address. I assume, with a gateway, the IP is assigned to the internal router. Is MAC address cloning enabled in Cox supplied gateways? If so, that may work to force a new IP.
