New modem

I live in the Oklahoma City area and have been advised by Cox that I need to upgrade my modem to a DOCSIS 3.0 device. The Cox retail store sells the Cisco DPC3010 but their supported list also shows the Motorola SB6141 (which has great reviews on the internet). Would I better of buying the Cisco directly from Cox or is the SB6141 a better or more stable modem? Also will both be supported by Cox with future firmware upgrades? Thank you for any responses and suggestions.

The SB6141 is a great modem, I use that one and haven't had any issues yet. I get about 130Mbps on the Premier plan with it, I got mine on Amazon for around $80. However, if you want to "future proof" your network, hold out for the SB6183 that's coming out soon (hopefully end of this month).

Also, what kind of Router do you have??

I prefer the SB6141 over the DPC3010. I find it runs less hot, and has better diagnostics. Just be sure not to get a used/black one.

The Asus RT-AC68U is supposedly a beast of a router, but it costs a pretty penny at $200. If you want an AC router though, I'd go with either that one or the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900... The Asus RT-N66U seems to be a really good N router and is only $128 on Amazon.

Newegg sale ends today on the Asus RT-N66U, the best, if not top 3, Wifi N router on market. Promo code EMCPBWE23 gets you a free switch.

I personally would get the SB6141 here and get a TP-Link router here that's a lot cheaper and works just great without making you broke. Routers are extremely overpriced for name brands like Asus and Netgear, I guess they think if they seed a lot of reviews on the net that they can get gold for them when they are only worth half what they are charging, if that. You will get great functionality from TP Link routers for less than half the cost (no I don't work for them and I'm not affiliated in any way, they just work great with no issues I've seen after setting up several people with them).
