Netgear CG3000D wireless connection unstable

For the last several months the wireless connection on my CG3000D is extremely unstable, regularly (constantly) dropping wifi connection to all devices (Android tablets and phones, Mac airbook, windows 8 laptop).  There is no help from cox in terms of firmware updates that I can find outside of paying for a tech to come and do a paid service call.  I purchased the Gateway/router from them and am now told that they don't support it. Tech Support informed me that I have to contact the manufacturer, which will only result in them telling me that only Cox can update the FW (as proven out on many forum posts here).  SHe also told me that had I been lesing the box they would help, but since I purchased it is now my problem?  WHAT?

I am wondering how many people have this problem, how many have paid cox to fix it, which is likely a simple firmware upgrade?

DOes anyone have a solution to this?  Makes me want to go try DSL

Hello JDC,

I want to check your firmware and the status of your equipment. I am unable to locate your account. Can you email me your service address and a link to this forum post to cox.help@cox.com?

Thanks,
Tiffany, This seems to be a recurring issue on this modem. I went on line to find any firmware updates and there is nothing from vendor or cox. That is a little hard to believe on any new hardware.... I bought this box on recommendation from Cox at the store about 14 months ago when I was not getting the speeds that I was paying for (they said I needed this modem to get the speeds I had paid for). I only figured it must have a update of some kind by now.. I paid a Cox over $100 last Fall to install a brand new cable run from the modem through the attic to the cable head - they thought that was the problem. It seemed to be better, but a few months ago it started constantly, but inconsistently dropping connectivity to devices or Internet constantly. One day last week we say it drop the line 3 times for 1-2 minutes within 20 minutes - very frustrating. So I am now thinking the cable might not have been the issue last Fall. Any help on this? Thanks, BobF

I know Im probably beating a dead horse with how often I post this, but I kind of see those gateways like Internet training wheels. If your knowledgeable enough to know how bad they are, you probably no longer need one. There designed to be plug and play, and the firmware can be a real issue.

Do you rent or buy it? If you bought it, could you return it for your money back and maybe buy a stand alone router? You would also need a a modem to go with it, but if you have phone service, Cox will usually upgrade your phone modem (which can do data too) for free. I would be willing to offer suggestions or configuration help if you want. I just cant help at all with the gateways.
