Netgear CG3000D issues
This modem/router has been giving me problems since it was installed a couple of months ago. I believe it was a used router. Is there anybody else out there having issues or had issues with this device? My Wi-Fi drops all the time and I have to reset it. My PC is the one most affected by it. This device model is from 2009, to me it seems a little old, and there are no Firmware updates on the Netgear site or this site. By the way, I'm leasing the router from Cox.

CG3000D is the cheapest, and most widely used gateway by Cox. Any particular reason your leasing and not buying your own equipment? A modem and separate router are always going to be better for gaming because it allows you greater control of the quality and configuration. Even if you stay with a gateway, I would suggest requesting a different unit. I would suggest the Ubee DDW366 but if you decide to go separate modem and router I can make better suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. It's easier for me right now to lease it instead spending $100 or more on buying my own. But if you know a couple of good ones you can recommend, I would really appreciate that, just in case Cox doesn't want to exchange it for a Ubee.

Yea, its a investment question. Your spending 7-9$ a month right? At that rate its cheaper to buy something then rent after 1 year. But a upgrade is free, so see what they offer. Do you have any old routers or stuff used with other ISPs?
For modems/routers/or gateways? Modem I would suggest the Motorola SB6141. For routers I am partial to Asus but TP-Link is starting to make some strides. If 100$ is your limit try to find a RT-N66U on sale for 99$, but you can probably find what you need for 70$ or so. I can't give any informed suggestions for gateways, since i have never used them. I just know by the volume of complaints that the CG3000D is particularly bad.

So I called tech support, told them what is going, and they re-provisioned the modem/router. I don't think that's going to help but I have to let them figure it out, next step is they will send a tech if the problem is still there.
I looked into that ASUS RT-N66U and it looks like it's worth it. Thanks for recommending that.
I do have a couple of old routers but they are weak on signal, that's why I went with the lease option. I guess I thought theirs would be better.

Maybe, maybe not. Even a newer (better) gateway can be worst then a older router. Depends on the design. DO you know what models you have? Anything Wifi N?
Also, what tier or plan do you have? I ask because with Ultimate you get more then 1 IP and you might be able to use a switch to separate the gaming PC and make it a direct connection. That will make match making faster.

One is a Belkin F5d8233-4 Wireless N Router and the other is a linksys G I believe.
I have the preferred plan with 50mbps, I don't really use my PC for gaming, the PC is like the family computer where we do mostly web browsing and stuff, I do my gaming on my PS4 but that I have on a wired connection, so not a lot of problems there. We have 5 smartphones two iPads one tablet one PS3, two laptops and the Desktop that all use the WIFI (not all at the same time of course). Usually 5 or 6 devices on at a time. The wifi can drop at any given time, even when everyone is asleep.

Hello Gamer777,
You can take the gateway to the nearest cox retail store and swap it out if you are leasing it from us. Also, you can send us an email with your full address and cox pin to cox.help@cox.com and we can assist you.
Thanks,
Allan - Cox Support Forums Moderator.

May be usable. But you may want a clearer picture of what is actually going on. You said your PC was the most effected, and it's wired. Do you loose the internet on other wired devices? What do you have to do to the PC to get back online?
What do you mean it "drops"? Do you see yourself still connected to the network name? Can you even see the network around you when you scan? Can you see it just not connect? Etc

So it has been a couple of weeks since the Netgear CG3000 was re-provisioned, and it was working fine until yesterday. I had to do a restart and another one this morning. I'm taking it in the store today. I'm hoping I can get a better one. Like the Ubee for example.

Try updating the drivers for the desktop wireless card. Also, do you have your security set to TKIP or AES? Sometimes certain Wifi clients on computers can have issues with TKIP because it's software based.
Is the desktop the only wireless device effected?
