netgear c6300 cable modem
I just got a Netgear C6300 cable modem. It said on the box that its compatible with Cox, but when I tried to set it up with Cox the tech said that it was not on their list of compatible modems that just does not seem right. I'm sure that netgear worked with Cox to make this modem available. Any help out their?
Thanks

On the pictures on Newegg I see it says Xfinity and Timewarner. I don't see it saying Cox. I also don't see it on Cox's list of compatible modems. Looking at the specs its a 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 gateway with a Puma CPU so its reasonable Cox doesn't have the firmware yet. The SB6183 was just added a month or so ago.

I forgot to give the link for the list of Cox compatible modems. See here.

On a side note, here is the Amazon listing expressly stating that is not approved for Cox or Charter yet.
http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-AC1750-DOCSIS-Router-C6300/dp/B00J65WQHU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415469394&sr=8-1&keywords=netgear+c6300
This modem is very new and assuming there are no major problems will likely be added to our approved modem list at some point. If you're needing something now however I'd suggest exchanging it. If you're specifically wanting a more advanced wireless-AC connection you may wish to consider a separate modem/router solution.

If Cox supports DOCSYS 3.0 and the Netgear C6300 is DOCSYS 3.0 compatible then how could it be incompatible with Cox?
Will it be supported and if so, when?
What happens if I choose a different modem, such as the Netgear C3700, during activation?

Being DOCSIS 3.0 standards compliant doesn't mean it will be compatible with our system. Each and every modem modem has different software and behaves differently in ways that the DOCSIS standards don't address. If you were to misrepresent the make/model to get it activated the agent probably won't catch it however if you have problems at the very least you'll be on your own to troubleshoot or worst case scenario if the modem is causing network problems your service could be suspended. Modem manufacturers aren't required to make modems to our specification and we're not required to run our network to the manufacturers specifications. There are simply too many providers for them to work with and too many manufacturers for us to work with. We regularly evaluate new equipment on our network to ensure compatibility and update our approved devices list. I would imagine as this modem becomes more readily accessible via retail channels that would would move testing along to either approve or identify issues with the vendor.

If you have a pressing need to replace/upgrade your existing modem I'd suggest choosing something from the existing list of approved devices. Any of those listed should work well for most situations.
