Need firmware update for SBG6580 modem - current firmware kills VOIP

Took the plunge and ordered Cox at home. Bought Motorola SBG6580 on Amazon because it has built in WiFi. Modem shipped with V. 3.3.x of firmware. Set up VOIP and everything works great.

Then after a billing snafu and reprovisioning, Cox rolls me back to 3.2.1 breaking my VOIP because 3.2.x has no means of disabling SIP ALG (called SIP Pass Through on the Moto). Now my VOIP is broken. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Routers+SIP+ALG

Level 1 and 2 support says no update yet. Love the router, just don't want to have to return it and run so many devices on my little desk to have cable modem + WiFi...

Come on COX, let's get a firmware update! Comcast is on 3.5.x and Charter is on 3.5.x also...

Wees41, have you tried any port forwarding or triggering on the router side?  I can't get it to work with the firewall set to Medium or High.  Motorola says it should.

No I haven't.  Have nothing that needs it.  I bought for the modem and router in one.

Comcast users are reporting same issues with the same firmware.

Cox really should FIX this ASAP.  I've been having consistent connections (rather intermittent connection) problems for over two years. The other ISPs have already fixed this with a firmware update, and with good support too.

If Cox doesn't fix this issue for the next two months, I'm switching ISPs.  I'm tired of calling their CS and TS, and not getting any real help.  I value my VOIP and 15-18Mbps connection, but if it keeps getting disconnected, or if my speed drastically goes down (not even 0.6Mbps) when I go to some parts of the house where the connection still has a 4-bars strong connection, I can't keep suffering this issue.

Cox please update the firmware!  I am still on 3.2.1 and I am unable to do certain things like internal/external port forwarding until the firmware is upgraded.

This has been problematic for me for two years and it seems every other ISP out there has at least some level of modern firmware.  3.2.1 is so old!

Mine specs:

Standard Specification Compliant DOCSIS 3.0
Hardware Version 1
Software Version SBG6580-3.2.1.0-GA-02-249-NOSH

Please roll out an update soon.  Many new versions have been available from Motorola for so long.

I seem to be having the same problem as the other users with the Motorola SBG 6580 , the service guy was just out today and replaced the line to the house and a splitter and I am still getting a very intermittent connection. That leaves the modem which I bought recently and it seems you fixed the problem for the other user. Can I ask what you did to fix the problem?

The firmware on  your modem appears to be current so that's not likely an issue.  Do all of your devices lose connectivity at the same time?

Yes, the signal to everything drops at same time. I moved the modem nearer my desktop so I can use an Ethernet cable but also use an IPad, Xbox and laptop and they all lose signal at the same time. It is very intermittent in that in a 10 minute period the signal might drop 2 or 3 times and you end up reloading a webpage several times before you get it. And actually right now everything seems to be working fine, DEFINITELY better than before. I was sitting at my desk when I noticed the modem lights seemingly going through a test mode right after I posted my last msg. and it has been a LOT better since so I was actually assuming you found something. For the last 24 hours I have had no problems at all so maybe it is resolved. either way, thanks.

Believe I have the same issue, it seems as if other users received a pm as to how to work out the fix. I am in the Las Vegas Market, the connection is stable but I do seem to lose internet connectivity on some devices/ computers intermittently (almost seemingly the same issues as others.)

Standard Specification Compliant DOCSIS 3.0
Hardware Version 1
Software Version SBG6580-3.2.1.0-GA-02-249-NOSH

What do i need to do to get this fixed?

We can try a firmware update and see if that helps.  I'm sending 3.5.8.4 now.
