my download speeds arent as fast as they should be

I signed up  for 50mbps and the speedtests show that i get 62mbps but when i actually download stuff it only goes up to about 6 or 7mbps.

You didnt give much info on your problem. What are you trying to download from? Cox can only promise that speed on their network. The internet is national and even global, most of the times the limit isn't your download bandwidth down, but their bandwidth up.

Also sure it was 6-7Mbps and not 6-7MBps. 6-7MBps equals 48-56Mbps. 8 Mb for every 1 MB, roughly.

I'm downloading from camp pendleton, about 7 miles from san Clemente. I'm not very smart with all the limits on speeds and how they work or what not. I'm just pretty sure I signed up for 50 megabytes per second, not 6-7

No, Mb not MB. Big difference.See here for speeds. Make sure you enter you zip code in the top right for speeds specific to your area. If your getting 6-7MB then your getting the full speed.
