MS Outlook Suddenly Quit Working

I have used Outlook with my cox.net email account for 12 months now. Yesterday evening it suddenly and mysteriously quit working. The message I get is: "Task 'pop.cox.net - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108) : 'Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)."

So, first I checked the on-line set-up directions and everything is set correctly. Then I tried the automated phone support ["unplug your modem/router to reset, blah, blah"] and still no joy. When I finally got a live person in Support, she tells me Cox Support won't help with Outlook. Great!

Now I'm here. Can anyone suggest a fix? I haven't been into the Outlook Account settings menu since I first set it up. It's worked just fine for a year. Why can I suddenly no longer connect?
TIA....

0x80042108 is usually caused by a Anti-virus problem? Who do you have? I suggest disabling or uninstalling it temporarily and see if that resolves.

Hi Duncan's Dad, what are you using for anti-virus? Check to see if the anti-virus product is installed on your computer and look to see if it is integrated with Outlook. Also, if you use your computer for work, check to see if you have your work VPN running.

Thank you both for your replies. My problem apparently resulted from an aggressive stance taken by an app called "Glasswire" which I D/L'd from Kim Kommando's site. It's supposed to monitor network access. Unfortunately, it made major modifications to my firewall, effectively blocking access by. MS Outlook. I deleted the many bits of the program [with some difficulty] and now Outlook accesses the net just fine again.

Thanks again.
