Motorolla MB7420 Support?
This is a new modem that I would like to be able to use with Cox. I was wondering what kind of timeline to expect for future support. This modem is a new product for 2016 and has already been adopted by Comcast and Time Warner. Thanks!

Interesting, looks like they took the chipset out of the SBG6900-AC, shrunk it down, turn it upside down, and took away the router functions. It is simular to the SB6183 but actually has a slower upload speed because of the tuner being a wider freq. spread. Here is the MB7420 datasheet and here is the SB6183 for comparsion.
Also, odd that it only has a Motorola brand on it. I thought Arris bought Motorola and could only use their brand for so much longer.
In general why release another modem that is almost identical in performance to one already released? So far not on the Cox modem compatibility list, but they update it frequently. Just added a new modem yesterday in fact. This one does have a power button and a reset button, which is odd for a modem to have. This seems like they are doing something fishy. Like contracting the work out to someone else and then branding it Motorola. Might want to wait for some reviews before buying this one.

Yup, looks like I was right. They are Zoom modems re-branded as Motorola. See here for more info. If Cox allows the spectrum anylizer to stay active, and not disable it in the firmware like they have others, it might be worth it. Otherwise go with the SB6183. Better and only 10bucks more.

Yes Sir, Its a Zoom manufactured board inside! I've already got it here at my home unfortunately so I'll have to play the waiting game for now.

See if anything comes up on Http:\\192.168.100.1:8080
That should be where the spectrum anaylizer should be. Should look something like this.
Also, Newegg lists the modem as compatible with Cox. So maybe it is and just hasn't been added to the list. Try connecting it to a outlet and don't even add it to the account. If the firmware updates, it's compatible. I am curious of it's performance. Zoom isn't a bad company, but they tend to be value focused. Kind of like TP-Link. Who knows though, the proof will be in the pudding.

I was able to get farther than I have previous whit the modem and got to the modem information pages. It was able to get a configuration file and stated network access as allowed. I tried 192.168.100.1:8080 to no avail and was not able to get a ping response in command prompt. I was also able to get Cox self activation but the model was not listed. Looks like its able to work once they add the model to the selection menu.

What firmware is it running? Is there anywhere in the UI that says it? If its above stock firmware, you are good and can probably call up and fib, say its a different model and just give the S/N and MAC address. Worst that will happen is it won't work yet. You might need to wait for the model to be added to the customer database so it can be provisioned, IE have the service level of your account applied to it.

I haven't been able to find anything that says specifically Firmware but I suspect that the "CM Certificate" is the same thing. It states that it is installed and running version 5.7.1MP1
HW version 1.0
Sw version 7420-5.7.1.9
Configuration file: ^1/53AB02DF/SLFR001

Thats the Self install config. I don't think Cox has anything in their CMTS for it. It does it based on your MAC. I suspect it will be on the approved list short period, just no idea when. Do you have back up you can use unitl then?
